"Deep Gladness Meets Authentic Audacity" - Marilyn Sue Warren
Theologian Frederick Buechner states, "We are called to serve where our deep gladness meets the world's needs." Today we will explore serving life from the space of gladness and audacity. Or as Emma Goldman stated, "If I can't dance, it's not my revolution."
Featured musicians: Kater Reynolds, violist & Dr. David Nalesnik, piano.

Sharing the Offering
In August, we will share our offering with Empower Missouri. Empower Missouri is dedicated to ensuring social justice for all Missourians. Founded in 1901, the non-partisan organization educates and empowers Missourians on issues including hunger, housing, education, health, and economic opportunity. It is an important ally in Eliot Chapel's work for systemic racial and economic justice, and is an eloquent voice for good in Missouri.

Based in Jefferson City, Empower Missouri chapters across the state provide opportunities for citizens to learn about state and federal policies and become involved in these conversations. We depend on its knowledge and expertise as we learn about changing systems of oppression and how to put our UU principles into meaningful action for systemic change.

Church News

The new church year is approaching! The September newsletter deadline is this week on Wednesday, August 15. Send submissions to news@eliotchapel.org. And put Ingathering on your calendar for Sunday, September 9--we can't wait to see you!

We  ♥  Eliot Celebration
Ingathering Saturday, September 8
Sign up now! Volunteer for this party to celebrate Eliot inside and out!
We'll be washing windows, cleaning out gutters, raking, weeding, trimming, painting, doing deep cleaning inside, and making Eliot shine for Ingathering. Contact the front office or sign up on the bulletin board to come to the party or provide supplies:
email frontoffice@eliotchapel.org or call 314-821-0911.

Volunteers Needed
In order to be good neighbors on our street, we're looking for volunteers to clean up the remaining landscaping at 222 Argonne. We plan to transplant plants to the church grounds, rake leaves, clean the deck, pull or kill weeds in the driveway, pull vines on the back fence, and make an ongoing maintenance plan until the house is demolished. We want to keep 222 looking as we would want our own home and neighbors' homes to look. Contact the office at frontoffice@eliotchapel.org or 314-821-0911.

Please note: The flowers in service on Sunday, August 5 were designed by Kate Magrath in memory of her late husband Mark Nissen to honor his birthday.

Extricate and exterminate weeds in Fillmore Park!
Lend a hand in community service as we help to maintain this recently rebuilt and replanted pocket park at 410 S. Fillmore, about half a mile south of Eliot in a multi-racial neighborhood. Eliot folks work together for an hour before the day's major heat - weeding, deadheading if needed, and doing a "once over" for usually minimal trash. We will work tomorrow on Saturday, August 11. Future dates include Thursday, August 23, and on Saturday, September 1, Thursday, September 13, and Saturday, September 29. Meet in the shelter at 9:00 a.m. Sign up on the Adams Hall bulletin board, at the Social Justice table or by emailing Claire Robertson at socialjustice@eliotchapel.org.

Summer is often a time for road trips - to see friends, family, and other parts of the country. Flying is faster, more convenient, and sometimes not a lot more expensive. What are the benefits of land travel? Are there spiritual lessons to be found on the road? Spoiler alert: Yes.
