PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone,
Our last PTSA membership meeting, April 25th, we had Ginger Bonnell, Emergency Management Program Coordinator for BSD talk about safety at our schools and specifically IS. The topic of emergency contacts came up and how the scenario would work out if an actual emergency occurred at IS and the reunification process. Please see
the poster that outlines the reunification process.
One of the key areas that concerns us is emergency contacts. Are your emergency contacts up to date? Your Parent Vue should have the emergency contacts listed. These are contacts, that in case of an emergency can come and meet or pick up your student. Do you have Grandma listed as an emergency contact and she lives in Los Angeles? If you are unsure of what you have listed, stop into school and ask in the office to see your listing.
One of my take away from the meeting was that my student is safe at school. Teachers, staff are trained in the appropriate procedures during a lock down or lockout to ensure the safety of my student and yours. What we can do to support this school during an emergency is have the information on your student(s) profile correct.
Please look for an email this week about our
Hats off to IS annual fundraiser and auction. We will have
ticket links in this email and the ability to donate. Our PTSA budget needs this fundraiser to meet all the school requests for funds to make this a top academic school.
Here are links to our academic might in Puget Sound and around the US. Niche ranks us No. 3, US News & World Report ranks us No. 2 in WA and No. 41 nationwide. I could go on, but what I want to emphasis here is that we are the academic powerhouse that we are from our dedicated staff, exemplary curriculum, motivated students and a strongly funded PTSA supporting this school. Please plan on attending our May 18th event and support the academic success of this school.
Best,
Meribeth Nordloef-Pedersen

2nd ANNUAL CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT DAY: SUNNY, SUPERB, AND SURPRISING!
At our 2nd Annual Campus Improvement Day, over 25 volunteers came to collect garbage, trim plants, spread bark along the driveway, power wash the front entry and courtyard, hang and measure door shades and then came the surprise. The fire alarm rang, people exited the school and the fire trucks came. It turns out that a fault in the dry sprinkler system set it off.
We all finished up by about 12 noon and completed a great community project. We would like to thank the following volunteers;
- Bert, Julie, Claire & Jack Molinari
- Li ,Eleanor & Isaac Wu,
- Zena, Lyndon, Lauren & Hannah Heywood,
- Camille Overnay
- Minal Shah
- Brian McMurray
- Maracris Laserna
- David Doud
- Joanie Chang
- Yenii & Lauren Dex,
- Kevin & Amy Frei
- Lily Tan
- Rachel Feng
- Vaiju Bal
- Carol Liu
- Meribeth Nordloef-Pedersen & Tessa Pedersen.
Take a look at some hardworking people. Community Creates Success at IS!

BACCALAUREATE SLIDE SHOW - DEADLINE 5/25
One of the great traditions of Baccalaureate is a slide show featuring every senior. Each student is able to have 4-6 photos in the slide show. People tend to have a current photo (like a senior portrait), an early photo (like a baby photo), and a family photo. But it is up to you what you’d like to include (activities, sports, travel, etc.).
There is also the opportunity to share group photos – pictures from classes, senior takeover, focus week, dances, high school retreat, band/choir/orchestra, etc. Send as many as you would like to share, but know that we may not be able to use them all.
The deadline for photos is
Friday 5/25.
