Did you know we have an Emergency Operations Facebook Page? Here is the direct link to request to join:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/CCAoNHEOP/ Please see the description below in your consideration to join:
Facebook Group Description:
Child Care Aware of NH is dedicated to strengthening our Emergency Planning efforts. With approximately 45,000 children in child care settings throughout New Hampshire, it’s essential that these settings have strong emergency plans and procedures in place. Emergency services personnel have increased the amounts of safety events offered to their local communities. Through coordinated efforts with local emergency services, childcare programs will be better able to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the next incident, emergency or major disaster. Through this Facebook group, we are hoping to expand our efforts on helping our communities become a little safer. Consider joining this Facebook group to share and receive tools, resources and events regarding Emergency Planning.

A Message from the Child Care Licensing Unit
We are excited to collaborate with Child Care Aware of NH to bring news from the Child Care Licensing Unit to the child care community on a regular basis through their e-newsletter, Monthly Minutes. Every month, we will strive to bring you information to increase your understanding of the NH Child Care Licensing Rules, and to share other resources to assist you in your work with and on behalf of children and their families. We will also use this space to share any important announcements as they relate to Child Care Licensing Unit (CCLU).
Staff Qualification Determinations
Look at your current team… do you have assistants that you wish could be associate teachers? Do they have hours of experience? Have they taken even one class in early childhood, elementary education, child development, or some other field focused on children? Might they take more in the next calendar year? Depending on your answers, a current staff member may be allowed to be an associate on a working plan, or a waiver may be an option. Never hesitate to reach out and ask your licensing coordinator for help and support. The licensing coordinator will evaluate the information and let you know what options you have.

Lead Safety

Is your school or child care center set up to combat childhood lead poisoning?
Children may become lead poisoned when they inhale lead dust or eat lead-contaminated paint chips, soil, food, or drink lead-contaminated water. Lead poisoning can cause lifelong impacts, including developmental impairment, learning disabilities, impaired hearing, reduced attention span, hyperactivity and behavioral problems.

In 2018, EPA Region 1 launched a geographic-based initiative in the Seacoast Area of New Hampshire and Maine to help reduce childhood lead exposure. EPA aims to reduce lead exposures through increased awareness of and improved compliance with the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule issued under the authority of the Toxic Substances Control Act. EPA will also assess compliance with the federal Disclosure Rule where applicable and provide educational information about lead in drinking water. This EPA letter to New Hampshire schools and child care centers is intended to help reduce the risk of lead exposure in New Hampshire child care facilities.
NH Lead Bill SB247

On February 8, 2018, Governor Sununu signed Senate Bill 247 Prevention of Childhood Lead Poisoning. This law requires, among other actions, that all schools and licensed childcare facilities test lead in drinking water at all locations where water is available for consumption by children. The first round of testing is required to be completed by July 1, 2019.
To view the letter sent to all NH schools and licensed child care centers regarding the drinking water testing go to:

A Message from the NH Immunization Program

It’s hard to believe that September is upon us!

Do you know what immunizations are required by NH State Statute for a child to be enrolled in any NH licensed child care program? Visit the NHIP website where you will find the 2018-19 Childcare Immunization Requirements and links to the law/rules.

Are you ready for the 2018 Annual Childcare report, which will be available by mid-October and which is due every year on November 15? Visit the NHIP website for the NH Child Care Providers’ Guide to Immunizations and for an Immunization Tracking Tool to help you to keep track of each child’s vaccinations throughout the year. NHIP is working to make the report easier to use, but reviewing records now to be sure they are up to date will make the process easier in November.

Looking for fun and educational activities? Visit the NHIP webpage for posters and coloring books and a “What’s New” link. You can find the Child Care Providers page of the NH Department of Health and Human Services Immunization Program website at http://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/immunization/ccproviders.htm .

Thank you for all you do to make sure NH children and their families and communities are safe from vaccine preventable diseases. As always, if you have any immunization related questions, please contact us at 603-271-4482.

Have a happy and healthy school year!
From the staff at NHIP

Sunbeatables
Back to School with the Sunbeatables Program

Patricia and her family understand what it's like to battle melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. She didn't want any other families to go through what her family has been through, and decided to take action. Read more about Patricia's story and how she is getting children involved at an early age here .

As Labor Day approaches, kids will still be spending a lot of time outdoors in the sun throughout the coming months. As Patricia learned, sun protection is important all year long--Help children keep their skin protected by integrating sun safety into your classroom routine. Access Ray and the Sunbeatables® science experiments, art activities, songs and other lessons at sunbeatables.org ! For a limited time, you can order a free printed curriculum toolkit when you register (while supplies last!).
