NCMA Denver President
Dear Denver Chapter,

We are kicking off the new year bringing you what you asked for most in response to our survey - let's bring on the training! We had a great turnout for the first two of the webinar series on pricing this January (the third in the series, Total Evaluated Price, will be next Thursday January 25th (see details elsewhere in the newsletter). In February, we are pleased to be bringing you two more "live" webinars:  Acquisition of Commercial Items (February 8th) and IP Protection and Cybersecurity in the Supply Chain (February 22nd). We will be bringing you this type of training/CPE opportunity throughout the program year. If demand is high enough, we will look into hosting these events at multiple locations for easier access for more of our members.

Stay tuned for details on our full day Winter Seminar to be held in March, and our big speaking engagement in the Spring. There is a lot of helpful content in the newsletter this month, so I'll keep this short. But first, I want to congratulate the most recent group of Denver Chapter members who passed their NCMA certification exams:

Brandon White, Contract Price/Cost Analyst at Defense Contract Management Agency, CFCM
Richard Steinberg, Contract Administrator at Envirocon, CPCM
Carrie Craft, Subcontract Manager at Sierra Nevada Corporation, CPCM
Joshua Thomas, Contracts Manager at Sierra Nevada Corporation, CPCM
Luke Griffith, Senior Procurement Manager at Sierra Nevada Corporation, PMP, CPCM
Paul Fisher, Sierra Nevada Corporation, CPCM

Congratulations to you! We also have our certification study group starting this upcoming Wednesday evening. So best of luck to those of you who will be studying for your exams shortly.

Last, I was honored to accept the Chapter Excellence Award, Silver Award for mid-size Chapters, on behalf of the Denver Chapter, at the Government Contracts Management Symposium in Arlington, Virginia this December. Thank you again for making this such a great chapter! I am looking forward to the what the new year will bring for us, and I wish you all a safe and prosperous year ahead.

-Angie

Denver Chapter Scholarship Program - Attend World Congress
Did you know that the Denver Chapter has a Scholarship Program for our members and one of the areas the scholarship covers is education? This includes attending national conferences such as the upcoming World Congress in July 2018. If you've not attended World Congress before it is a fantastic opportunity to gain hours of training, meet and network with other contracts professionals, and grow your career. Attendees at World Congress will earn up to 20 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits or Continuous Learning Point (CLP) credits. If you're interested in attending but don't have the financial resources available to make it happen applying for a Denver NCMA Chapter Scholarship is a way to get you there and we would love to help you out. Registration and early bird pricing for World Congress are set to open in January 2018. If you're interested in applying for a Scholarship to attend World Congress, or another educational event, please contact Brie Staker at: bries@ageiss-inc.com for more information.
Join us for the third in our Price Webinar series - Total Evaluated Price Next Thursday!
The U.S. government uses a variety of methods to analyze cost and price during source selection. This session examines policies and issues related to assessing reasonableness, realism, and balanced pricing in these competitive procurements. Differences between fixed-price and cost-type contracts will be discussed, as well how the government's estimate of "most probable cost" is typically developed and applied.

Key Takeaways:
  • Price and cost analysis techniques used in U.S. government source selection
  • Insight into the specific types of adjustments made to proposed prices by the government for purposes of evaluation
  • How pricing practices are impacted by U.S. Government Accountability Office decisions
