Administrator Note

Dear World Compass Academy Community,

We want to celebrate our students' amazing effort with the testing. They showed up and gave it their all. As a school, we had so much growth. It was exciting to see WCA excel and surpass expectations. We are looking forward to having all our students and staff back, and we are valuing and utilizing all our time in-person.

Thank you for all the support from home.

Warm Regards,
Bethany, Krista, and Amanda
Transitioning Remote/In-Person Learning

If you are not changing your learning modality, please do NOT complete the form. Students who are changing their modality of learning will begin in their new modality (either permanent remote or in-person) on February 25, 2021.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding changing your child's learning modality, please email Amanda Neubert.

Library Volunteers Needed
Parents Sign-up to Volunteer in our school library.
Times available: every Friday, 10:00am-3:00pm
(Parents may volunteer for the entire time or a portion thereof.)
Job: shelving and checking-in books

As a school, we have been very cognizant of operating under a cohort model. In order to maintain cohort integrity, we would respectfully ask the parent volunteer to limit their time to the library and would not be able to visit their child's classroom or other areas of the school.

If you are willing to help, please sign up using the sign up genius link. Thank you for volunteering at WCA.

International Valentine's Day Celebrations
In Spain:
Although not a traditional Spanish holiday, St. Valentine’s Day in Spain is celebrated, like in most countries, with all kinds of sweet heart-shaped gifts, bouquets of flowers, cards, and romantic dinners at fancy restaurants. San Valentin falls during Spain’s carnival season.
In France:
It is known as la fête de Saint-Valentin and despite being celebrated (or marked in someway) by around 70% of the adult population, it isn't a big commercial affair. The French celebrated Valentine's Day with “une loterie d'amour”.
In China:
The Double Seventh Festival (Qixi Festival) is one of Chinese traditional festivals, and also known as a Chinese Valentine's Day. It's based on a romantic legend about a weaver girl and an ox herd. It falls on the 7th day of the 7th Chinese lunar month. In 2021, this date is August 14th.
Spanish Masks
Valentine Masks in Spanish are available. Show the LOVE of your foreign language.
Cognitive Abilities Testing
As part of the DCSD Universal Screening process and our commitment to equitable identification for gifted programming, DCSD will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT 7) during the weeks of Feb. 8 - March 5, 2021. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. Please see below for specific information based on your child’s current grade. If your student is in the permanent remote learning program please look for an email from Kate Parker to participate.

 2nd Grade Universal Screen
  • As part of this process, ALL students in 2nd grade who have not been identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the weeks of February 8th and 15th. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.
  • If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with more detailed information about this process.
