Award-Winning Wildlife Photographer Peter Christoph Presents, "On Silent Wings: The Magic of the Snowy Owl"
Join us on Wed., Jan. 15 at 2:00 p.m. as award-winning wildlife photographer Peter Christoph presents, "On Silent Wings: The Magic of the Snowy Owl."
During the cold winter months, Christoph spends his days along the Atlantic Coast following the movements of a few snowy owls during their winter migration to our New England beaches. They fly quite a distance from their home on the frozen tundra in the high Arctic and he goes on location to capture these rare and intimate photographs of the owls taken in their winter habitat. Several of his snowy owl photos have earned national and international awards.

Build Your Own Terrarium
with Mary Ann Cunningham
Stop by the Library at 2:00 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 5 for a fun afternoon of building your very own terrarium. Go green with an easy craft project, where all materials will be provided including plants, soil, and glass containers. If you have your own supplies or would like to bring decorative items, like china animals, please do so.
The class will be led by Mary Ann Cunningham, the library plant person and longtime volunteer for all things green. She has never met a plant she didn't like.
For adults, ages 18 and up. You must have a reservation to attend as seating is limited. Stop in, call the Library at 508/946-2470, or email Libby Fox at [email protected].

We have lots of changes for the next few months, so look below and be sure to check the
Library's online and print calendars for specific dates and special events.
Special Programs
Preschool Stories and Science on Wed., Jan 8 from 10:30 - 11:30 .am., combines stories with hands-on science activities. Best for kids ages 3-6 and their families. This month's theme is Colors, with special guest Miss Betsy!
Seasonal Sensory Storytime -- Join Carol Carver on
Mondays, Jan. 13 and 27 at 10:30 a.m. for stories, songs and movement, along with creative art using sensory, fun materials. This program is run by Self Help, Inc.'s Coordinated Family and Community Engagement program. Best for kids ages 3-5 and their caregiver(s). Space is limited. Call 508-946-2470 or stop by to register.
Home School Discovery Workshop -- Thurs., Jan. 16, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Ms. Gina from Self Help, Inc. CFCE will lead a Home School Discovery Workshop for kids in grades K-4. Register

Preschool Storytime with Soule Homestead --
Wed., Jan 22. 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Special guests from Soule Homestead bring fun for ages 3-6 and their caregivers. Fly on over to the Library for an egg-cellent time and meet some of Soule Homestead Education Center's most beautiful hens. Includes story time, a fun chicken craft, and a lot of clucking. No registration required.
Homeschool Math Games on Thursdays, Jan. 23 and 30, 1:00-2:00 p.m. --
Homeschool families with kids grades 3-5 and their siblings are encouraged to drop-in for math games! Have fun with multiplication, factors, decimals, operation rules and more. Use cards and board games to reinforce math concepts. Have a great game to share? Bring it along. All participating families will receive a packet of resources to use at home. Younger siblings are welcome, and no registration is required.
Regular Programs
Mondays from 4:00- 6:20 p.m. -- Reading with Miss Marilyn's Spaniels. Sign up for a 20-minute time slot and read to a therapy dog in a relaxed and non-judgmental setting. Call or stop by the Library to register. Please note -- there will be NO sessions on Mon., Jan. 20.
Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. -- Lego-mania is open for all ages of builders. Both Legos and Duplos are available to use at this library event. No registration required.
Thursdays (starting Jan. 9):
10:15-11:00 a.m. -- Baby Music Time -- Join musician Kathy Schofield for a baby music program filled with songs and more! Best for those who lapsit. No registration required.
11:15 a.m. -noon -- Toddler Tunes -- Join music teacher Kathy Schofield for a music and movement program just right for the toddler crowd. She'll have you movin' and groovin'! No registration required.

Push Notifications Now
Available for your Libby App
We bet lots of you are enjoying borrowing library books with the Libby app on new devices you received as Christmas gifts. (See article below about all the new e-books we've recently added.)
To make managing those e-books even easier, Overdrive recently introduced live "push notifications." Now you can
choose which notifications you'd like to receive from the Libby menu under Manage Notifications
, including: when a hold becomes available, when a loan is about to expire, when a loan has expired, and more.
Notifications are device-specific, so you can set notification preferences for each device you use Libby on.
Those readers with devices that don't support push notifications (or where they're disabled) can opt to receive notifications via email or in the Libby menu.
To enjoy notifications and other app improvements, be sure to install the latest update for Libby from your device's app store. You can always visit Libby Help in the app for more information about these new notifications and other Libby features.

No Mobile Library Visit to the COA This Month
This month's mobile library visit to the Council on Aging is cancelled due to construction and repairs at the COA.
Visits will resume next month on Tues., Feb. 18 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Santa Went Crazy on
E-Books this Christmas!
We've recently added a ton of new e-books and audio books to our Overdrive/Libby collection just in time to download onto all those new devices Santa brought. If you're a Middleborough Public Library card holder, you'll go to the front of the line on any new titles we now own. So log in, browse and enjoy the latest from authors like Ann Patchett, Elin Hilderbrand, David Baldacci and John Grisham.
We've also filled out many of our older series for authors like Sue Grafton and her Kinsey Milhone A is for ... books, and added e-audio books for authors like Patrick O'Brian and his Master and Commander series.
