Dear Supporter of Fair and Open Competition:
The "Dog days of summer" continue to be anything but Project Labor Agreement-free. From school bonds and city-wide measures to state courthouses and water treatment plants, the threats just do not stop coming.

If you would like to help the Coalition for Fair Employment in Construction (CFEC) in its efforts to push back against discriminatory and wasteful PLAs please consider donating today with a credit card by going here  or you can mail a check to PO Box 1627, Poway CA 92074.

To the update!

Education
Santa Clara Unified School District: CFEC and its allies have spent almost 5 years keeping this Bay Area school district and its massive $500 million construction bond PLA-free despite aggressive union attempts to put one in place. The fight continued last night as CFEC's Eric Christen made a presentation to the board of trustees that demonstrated why a PLA is a terrible idea. As you can see here both sides were given time to share their views on PLAs. We will report back on additional details of this meeting in the next PLA Update!

Mission Valley Community College District: In 2012, after years of failing to get a PLA in place, unions were able to get one on a "test project". The result was a debacle. The project ended up costing almost twice what it was supposed to ($20 million vs $11 million). CFEC detailed specifically what happened which includes the unions opposing an effort by the college to have a study to find out what went wrong. You can't make this up. But this PLA failure has not stopped PLA proponents from coming back to the college  5 years later to push for another PLA, which they did  Tuesday. In a "special meeting" that was held and kept hidden on their own website the college was scheduled to vote to approve this PLA.

Cities
Sacramento:  CFEC's Eric Christen attended the July 31st  Sacramento City Council meeting to expose the union greenmail that was being used against the  Natomas Crossing Quadrant B Office Development CFEC sent this letter to the council highlighting the environmental extortion that big labor special interests were engaged in and their history of such efforts. The agenda item was continued and CFEC will continue to work to expose this gross abuse of California environmental law both in Sacramento and around the state.

Courthouses
The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is attempting to sneak another PLA past us this time  on the proposed Modesto Courthouse . CFEC is aggressively working to see this does not occur and asks that you contact us today if you are interested in helping to oppose this PLA.

School Construction Bonds
CFEC will be actively working to educate  residents  in the Santa Ana Unified School District, the San Diego City Unified School District and the Sweetwater Union High School District about how their districts waste taxpayer dollars and discriminate against union-free workers under the PLA they have in place. We will be doing so because these entities have decided that they need even more tax dollars (We wonder why?) and have placed bond measure totaling more than $10 billion (total costs) on the November ballot. If you would like to learn more about this educational effort please contact CFEC today.
