New Digital Collections from OverDrive
|
 Two new collections are available from OverDrive. Digital magazines circulate for three weeks and do not count against the checkout limit.
And, we've added a simultaneous-use collection of 25 workout videos from Gaiam, Inc. These videos teach skills such as yoga, pilates, and tai chi, and also include kid-friendly titles. Simultaneous use means all titles are always available - no holds, no wait!

T Max is known for using modern effects to create background singers and a number of extra instruments as he plays guitar and sings. For his family-friendly performance at the Rowley Public Library, he will offer a variety of genres (originals and covers) ranging from '60s style pop to gospel, R&B and unforgettable tunes from the 1940s. He'll also preview his latest music project on classic horror monster films, and give a demonstration of the effects that create his modern one-man-band sound.

Magic the Gathering August 18, 12 noon - 3 pm

First published in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, Magic The Gathering was the first trading card game created and it continues to thrive to this very day with millions of players all over the world. Magic can be played by two or more players in various formats and is best suited to players age 5 and up.
We are thrilled to have Michael J. Geary and Josh Brown both with over 23 years of playing experience back with us for our summer events. Michael is formally a level 1 Judge and ranked #1 in the Military. Josh has been playing since the game came into existence. Michael and Josh will teach newcomers the ins and outs of getting started in the world of Magic The Gathering. They will also challenge more experienced players to help build their skill set and endurance.

"Art for a Cause" poster exhibit by Stephen Lewis

"Art that wears its politics on its sleeve," is a good way to describe the new poster exhibit at the Rowley Public Library. Posters on display are from multiple countries, and cover multiple issues, like the Spanish Civil War, migration, anti-Fascism, Angolan independence, censorship and other subjects. In addition to the subject matter, viewers are treated to art styles from many artists, and many countries. Stephen Lewis, the exhibitor, describes the exhibit as "a bit of art, a bit of message and a bit of history." Around 30 posters from his 7800-piece collection will be on display from August 2 through August 28 at the Rowley Public Library, 141 Main Street in Rowley. For more information, call 978-948-2850.

Join us to see The 15:17 to Paris, a PG-13 movie directed by Clint Eastwood. In August 2015, three American tourists subdue a terrorist aboard a train headed to Paris. This docudrama chronicles their lifelong friendship and the numerous choices that prepared them to act quickly in the face of sudden danger.

During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly appointed British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.

Libraries Rock! Adult Summer Reading

 Winning has never been so easy! 1. Stop by the front desk to sign up for our Adult Summer Reading program. 2. For every book you read, fill out a slip for our prize drawing. 3. For every extra activity or way you use your library, fill out a slip for our prize drawing. That's it! All books and activities must be completed by August 31, but we will accept slips through Sept. 1. The Grand Prize winner will be chosen by drawing after Sept. 1, and other prizes will also be awarded. The Grand Prize winner will choose from several prizes including a Kindle or a gift certificate to our local Jabberwocky Bookshop. Rowley Book Club to meet Thursdays starting September 6 at 6:30 p.m.

The Rowley Book Club is starting its fall season! On Thursday, September 6, we will be discussing What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. Have you ever wished you could forget the last 10 years? Alice wakes up at the gym only to find that she's 10 years older, has three kids, and is getting a divorce, and has no idea how this happened. Can she fix any of it? Yoga with Elissa, Wednesdays, 5:30-7 pm

Elissa Shoreman, founder and owner of Buddhaful Souls Yoga Studio teaches this class, which is appropriate for all fitness levels, modifications are made for beginners and challenges introduced for more advanced practitioners. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat if you have one. Poses increase flexibility, strength and balance, and help to focus the mind while expanding the spirit. Genealogy Club - Monday August 13, 6-8 pm

Interested in researching your family history? Start with yourself! Join us from 6-8 pm on the second Monday of each month in the Local History Room for Genealogy Club, where like-minded researchers can make use of the Library's resources, share ideas, and make progress on family stories. No experience necessary. No expert on hand, but those who have been working on this for a while will help you get started. Databases available are Ancestry.com (in library only) and Heritage Quest (access remotely with your Rowley Library bar code).

Wi-Fi hotspots available for check out

The Rowley Public Library has two Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspots available to loan, which will give up to 15 Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneous access to your own secure, private Internet signal. Borrow them like you would any library materials for one week, and take a signal with you almost anywhere. Call 978-948-2850 for more information or to make a reservation.

Annual Vehicle Night rescheduled for August 2, 6:30-7:30 pm

The Annual Vehicle Night put on as part of the Rowley Public Library Summer Reading Program had to be postponed to Thursday August 2. Two days of steady rain left the Town Common grass vulnerable to damage from the heavy trucks. The event is not being held at Pine Grove School this year because of the ongoing renovations. Join us to climb in and on all kinds of vehicles at the rain date, Thursday August 2, 6:30 - 7:30 pm, on the Town Common, Rte 1A in downtown Rowley. There will be fire trucks, police vehicles, tree trimming, construction and excavating equipment, busses, and new this year - racecars courtesy of Aponte-Rios racing!
