Board of Trustees Election and
Library Budget Vote

The Stone Ridge Library will hold its annual election on Monday, August 13 2018, between the hours of 2pm and 8pm at the Library.
The election is to fill two four-year seats and to consider the following proposition:
"Shall the budget proposed by the Board of Trustees of the Stone Ridge Public Library, including a tax appropriation of
$269,868 be approved?
If approved the proposed 2019 tax appropriation will rise 1.99% to
$269,868 from $264,577 this year.
Board of Trustees candidates nominated by petition for the four-year seats are Judith Schneller and Linda Still.
For those not able to come to the polling place on Election Day, absentee ballots are available at the Library. Absentee ballots must be returned by mail or in person to the Library no later than the close of business on Monday, August 13, 2018.
Those eligible to vote must live in and be registered to vote in the Town of Marbletown. For further information contact the Library Director, Jody ford at 845-687-7023, ext 104.

Children's Room Construction Project
|
Our construction project is in full swing. Demolition is complete and we are beginning the framing phase. The photo above shows the back of the Library, the door goes into what was originally the kitchen to the house. The wobbly porch that was off back door is gone.
The plan
The old roof-line shown was the "cold porch." The cold porch will become a handicapped access bathroom and a kitchenette. Next to it was just a space between the old kitchen and the cold porch. The original kitchen will be enlarged to include the that empty space.
That's the door and common wall to the middle Children's Room.

This month we will be reading Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. The reading selection for August is A Column of Fire by Ken Follett. In 1558, the ancient stones of Kingsbridge Cathedral look down on a city torn apart by religious conflict. Two separate writers' groups meet on alternate Mondays at the library, with a maximum of 10 participants in each group. This program is designed for those who are actively writing and publishing work and who want to participate in a structured critical feedback process. Cathy Arra, a poet, writer, and former teacher of English and Writing in the Rondout Valley School District, facilitates the groups. If you are interested in participating, please contact Cathy Arra to place your name on the waiting list. Group I is full. Group II will begin May 2018.

 KNITTING GROUP
Every Saturday
10am-noon
The Stone Ridge Library Knitters meet every Saturday morning from 10am - 12noon. All ages and experience levels can join us and drop-in knitters are also welcome. We each bring our own supplies and do our own work, but one of the best things about us is that whatever obstacle or confusion you might encounter, you're likely to receive as much comment and advice as you need to get where you're going with a project. Some of us can help toward the repair of knitted or crocheted items too.
 The group is sociable and lively, and our conversation and sharing is just as wide-ranging as our projects. We are especially interested in the UFOs (Un-Finished Objects) that members bring in and love the show and tell of projects under way and being finished, new or old, simple or complex. Though knitting is our love and mainstay, we graciously adapt ourselves to stray crocheters and those of us who simply must take to the hook when the spirit moves. We share articles, magazines and books on knitting. Donations of yarn to the Library get made up into items for sale at the Library Fair and during the winter holidays for the benefit of the Library. Some of us also knit things for local hospitals or for the U.S. troops.

LORI ANDERSEN

 Local artist, Lori Andersen, is a photographer featuring landscape, wildlife, portrait, and travel images. All photographs on display are for sale. Images are available on different mediums such as: metal, glass, canvas, bamboo, as well as matted and framed. For additional information and examples of her work, please visit

Lori Andersen studied fine arts at the undergraduate level but did not get back into photography seriously until a few years ago. Her work is exhibited regularly in various group shows at the Arts Society of Kingston, in Kingston, New York. Most recently, her work was selected to be part of a group show, where Hannah Frieser, the Executive Director for the Center of Photography at Woodstock, was the guest juror. Lori also works as a freelance photo retoucher.
 With her work, Lori hopes to bring nature to the viewer. Many people often lose their vital connection to the environment by commuting to work and being stuck in an office all day in front of a computer. An image of nature reminds us of how important it is to preserve our natural surroundings, the value of green spaces, and having empathy for the wild creatures that we share this earth with.
