President's Message

July was a busy month for ADAO!

Today is World Lung Cancer Day. ADAO is pleased to partner for prevention with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), a leading organization with exceptional prevention materials and campaigns. Check out today's blog and their press release. Since our UK meeting, our collaborative efforts have become even stronger.

Joining the London Asbestos Support Awareness Group (LASAG) in the UK for Action Mesothelioma Day was a great reminder that we ARE stronger together.

Facing industry mounting pressure and Trump's EPA, I wrote  "EPA and TSCA Implementation: Without an Asbestos Ban, You Can Put Lipstick on This Pig, But it's Still a Pig"  where you can read about EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt's resignation, and t he EPA Problem Formulation Document which, as predicted, excludes the risk evaluation for  legacy asbestos and the Libby Amphibole that linger in our homes, schools, workplaces, and our environment . In addition to these exclusions, the EPA claims a SNUR is a ban -which is absolutely deadly and false! And yes, ADAO has a strategic plan to ban imports and prevent exposure

Help us urge the EPA to do their job and ban asbestos by signing the petition to the EPA On August 8, we will submit the petition, again, to the EPA.

As you are buying back-to-school supplies, take a minute to check out our Checklist: 3 Key Steps to Keeping Your Kids Safe from Asbestos This School Year.

The awareness, prevention, and remembrance opportunities will keep coming ahead of Mesothelioma Awareness Day on September 26. This September for Mesothelioma Awareness Month   be sure to get involved by registering for the 10th Annual Miles for Meso 5K Race and 3K Walk/Fun-Run, enter a loved one's name to be worn on a tribute bib on race day, or submit the name of your loved one for the 2018 Mesothelioma Warrior Memorial Video. You can also participate in our Raise Your Voice 6 Word Quote Campaign to tell how asbestos has impacted you.

Want to relive the 14th ADAO Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference again? Then check out some of our conference highlight videos which are now available!

It's official, save the date for ADAO's  15th Conference will be on April 5-7, 2019 in Washington, D.C. Get ready for our strongest social action ever!

ADAO sincerely thanks our volunteers, leadership, and sponsors and donors who make our work possible.

Together, we are making change happen!
