IWL Blog Post:  Wise Leadership and the Importance of Time and Learning
By 2018 Indianapolis Breakout Speaker, Dr. Kiko Suarez
Chief Community Impact Officer, United Way of Central Indiana

"Yes. Poverty has always existed. And street violence. And lack of access to education. And wars. And, and... It's not that the times we live in are unprecedented in terms of issues, but it is certainly different in terms of how fast things happen" ... " The way cultural norms have evolved through an almost infinite access to all types of content has altered what's acceptable and what's not, and leadership must be, consequently, redefined."

Dr. Suarez will be delivering the breakout session, "Navigating Complexity and Leading Change in a Fast Paced World" on August 28. To learn more about him and our other breakout speakers, visit our website.

Now is the time to hear these incredible keynote speakers talk about the importance of being an ally, having equal representation, and claiming your destiny.

We will dive deep into what can we learn from this tapestry and how we can work together today to impact the work environment for the next generation, while appreciating those who came before us.

Conscious Leadership: Focusing on the "We" not "Me"

On July 11, the IWL team attended a Conscious Capitalism Indianapolis event at the Vogue Theatre. IWL CEO, Kim Graham Lee (also the volunteer president of the chapter) facilitated an engaging panel discussion focused on Conscious Leadership.  Different levels of leadership from One Click, a people-focused on-line eyewear company, and Morales Group, a purpose-driven recruiting and staffing company, participated on the panel. Nearly 100 people were inspired with an overall message that conscious leadership is about "We" and not "Me." It is "S.E.L.F.L.E.S.S", which reflects the following qualities:

S-Strength; E-Enthusiasm; L-Long-term Orientation; F-Flexibility; L-Love and Care; E-Emotional Intelligence; S-Systems Intelligence; S-Spiritual Intelligence

The philosophy of Conscious Capitalism also promotes an important message that organizations today need more of the strengths that are considered more inherently female characteristics-e.g., compassion, empathy, caring, collaboration, relationships, win-win.

IWL is proud to be engaged with Conscious Capitalism and other organizations that are doing amazing work to empower great leaders!

With our Indianapolis Conference quickly approaching, the theme for August is Now is the Time. This is your chance to take the next step - or even the first step - on something you've been putting off. Is there an idea that's been on your mind for a while, but you just keep telling yourself you'll do it later? Maybe you've been telling yourself you'll organize your garage. Maybe you've been wanting to ask for a raise at work. Maybe you've been wanting to try a new hobby, but you just haven't gotten around to it.  This month, think of one step you can take toward achieving that goal. Write it down with a deadline, and keep it someplace you'll see it every day. Here's the key - you have to DO it. It's easy to get overwhelmed by big ideas, but breaking it down into achievable pieces is a great way to get up the courage to finally act. Your procrastination ends today.  Now is the Time!
