From the desk of our
S.T.E.A.M. Lab
This week in STEAM we found inspiration from Yom Kippur. We focused on self reflection and other reflections throughout the room by setting up different learning centers with mirrors. Our ECE students sorted animals with horns and animals without horns. Lower school students learned about animals used for
shofar horns, their habitats, what they eat, and their predators.

Extended Learning
Montessori students in Ms. Massey's class extended learning through a trip to College Station. During this trip students visited the Bush Library, enjoying a tribute to President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. They also enjoyed a visit to the Chabad house at Texas A&M, where they had lunch. It was a wonderful experience for all....and, of course, another highlight of the trip was Buc-ee's!

Ulpan Maasi
Students in lower school enjoyed their first
Ulpan Maasi (Hebrew Studio) lesson that
Bnot Sherut (Israeli national service girls) Avital and Talya planned. The lesson had a Rosh Hashana theme. Students wrote cards to their friends in Hebrew, either wishing them a
Chag Sameach and Shana Tova (a happy holiday and happy new year), telling their friends
slicha (apologies), or saying
todah (thank you). The students also had an apple and honey taste test and enjoyed getting into the spirit for the upcoming holiday.

Boyle's Law
Students in Ms. Goldstein’s 8th grade physical science class have been learning about how temperature and pressure affect the volume of gases. To observe Boyle’s Law, which states how pressure affects volume, the students created Cartesian Divers. They also observed Charles’ Law on how temperature affects volume by measuring the circumference of a balloon, then putting the balloon in the freezer and rechecking the circumference.

Beren Innovation
Students in the BIMA elective worked hard this week on coding, 3D design, 2D design, and sewing. We can't wait to share all the exciting things they are creating. 3D design allows students to integrate creativity and spacial relations with metric system measurements and conversions. Often their designs are Judaic inspired, such as 3D
mezuzot. The design process teaches them critical thinking and problem solving as well as engineering design.

Shofar
Sounds
On Friday last week the entire school gathered for a pre-Rosh Hashana assembly and were treated to a play almost entirely in Hebrew (there were English translations) by Gveret Erlichman's 5th grade class. The play was about the sounding of the
shofar (horn) and how it serves as a wake up call. Following the play, students, faculty, and staff all sang together to end the day.
