President's Message

As I enter the final weeks of my term as President of GGAHU, I'm thankful for the opportunity to serve as your leader.  Our theme this year was "Helping Brokers Grow and Retain clients".  We started the year by surveying our members to find out what they wanted and then set about to do our best to exceed expectations.  Our action plan included out-of-the-box ideas such as partnering with NextAgency to offer AHU members a significant discount on agency management software designed to help you be more efficient in running your agency and provide value-add to your clients.  Our Sales Symposium offered high caliber, sales-oriented breakout sessions to help you effectively brand, market and diversify yourself and we are entering the fourth year of co-hosting the NorCal Medicare Summit to help you add new revenue streams in the growing senior services market.  Our monthly member meetings have been oriented towards our theme with legislative news fresh from the capital, a business planning workshop, a NAHU certified course on self-funding and a dynamic ERISA compliance seminar.  I'm pleased to turn the reigns over to a very capable, well-respected colleague, Sue Wakamoto-Lee.  As for me, I will continue to serve this great organization and am proud to join the CAHU board next month as your incoming VP of Finance.
Sales Symposium 2018

Your local chapter is your direct connection to stay up-to-date on state and national legislation and activities that impact our industry.  We are a Volunteer Trade Association, working hard to ensure members receive tremendous value from their dues in Legislative Advocacy, Professional Development and Networking.  Our Annual Sales Symposium combines all three into one event!  From all the positive feedback we received, it appears GGAHU hosted a tremendously successful event!  The theme was "Bending the Curve, Diversifying Your Skills for Success".  Many fresh ideas and tips were shared so that everyone could integrate something right away into their businesses!  Highlights included an overview of the political environment in Sacramento by incoming CAHU President Dave Fear, Jr., Keynote Speaker Kevin Trokey from Q4i; breakout CE sessions by Steve Williams from OLI Insurance Services on branding and Dennis Carlson from Agency Leverage on digital marketing strategies and a Medicare Trends presentation followed by Happy Hour sponsored by AGA.  We're so grateful for the support of our Sponsors who partnered with us to help make this event successful.

CAHU CAPITOL SUMMIT 2018

GGAHU members at Capitol Summit 2018

Eleven GGAHU members attended the Capitol Summit in Sacramento on May 22-23, educating senators and assembly members in our districts on the important role Agents play in the marketplace and the essential services we provide clients in guiding them through myriad options to the coverage that best suits their needs on a variety of levels as well as providing ongoing service and support.  We lobbied in opposition to AB 2499 and SB 910, which proposes increasing the MLR by 5% in the large group and individual markets and prohibits the sale of short-term limited duration health insurance plans, respectively.  We lobbied in support of SB 1238 and AB 2863 which requires medical providers to notify their patients before their personal medical records are destroyed and limits the amount a carrier or PBM may require a beneficiary to pay at the point of sale for a covered prescription to the lowest available cots, whether it's the applicable cost-sharing amount or the retail price, respectively.  You can find a copy of the Top Priority Bills Status Report under the Legislative tab on CAHU's website.  CAHU also launched a state-wide social media campaign at the start of the conference in which agents simultaneously tweeted or posted messages on social media.
