Immigrants and International Advisory Council reaches important milestone

July 18 was a day of celebration as nearly 100 community representatives gathered to recognize the DHS Immigrants and Internationals Advisory Council’s 10th anniversary

On July 10, staff from DHS and UPMC gathered in Penn Hills for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the new Penn Hills Family Support Center. DHS-funded Family Support Centers are located in communities around Allegheny County, and offer resources and fun for local families. A list of Allegheny County Family Support Centers is available on the DHS website .
DHS Racial Equity Summit encourages conversations, action around racial disproportionality

More than 100 leaders and direct service staff from the Behavioral Health Community of Practice and the Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) gathered for the inaugural DHS Racial Equity Summit, held July 11
New Scholars class announced

Nick Cotter and Jessie Lamb have been selected for the DHS Scholars in Local Government class of 2018-2019. Both received their master’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College in May
OBH staff member delivers emotional support during times of crisis

While the external damage of a disaster is usually obvious, there is often an emotional toll that is much harder to see. To meet the needs of those struggling to recover after a disaster, Joleen Chiaverini, outreach and disaster response coordinator in the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), works with the Disaster Crisis Outreach and Referral Team to offer emotional and logistical support

DHS partnered with the Penn Hills Library for “Express: Don’t Stress,” an  art  show displaying the work of CYF  youth . The art was on display at the library for the month of July.
DHS receives top designation from U.S. Housing & Urban Development

Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) was recently granted Unified Funding Agency status by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), allowing greater control over how DHS spends the funding provided through HUD’s annual Continuum of Care grant .
