Client of the Month - Arlene Weissman
"Contrology is the complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. "
-Joseph H. Pilates

Pilates is a lifelong pursuit that enhances the mind/body connection and with continued practice makes one aware of our changing bodies.  As we approach the last month of our summer, we share with you our August client of the month, Arlene Weissman and  and her experience with Pilates.

We remember the anniversary of Romana Kryzanowska's passing on August 30th.  She was an inspiration and a bright light to all who knew her.

Check out our apprentice news, exercise of the month and August special.  We look forward to seeing you in the studio.

Arlene Weissman

How long have you been studying Pilates?

Arlene:  8 Years.

What brought you to Pilates?

Arlene:  Throughout my life, people often told me to "stand up straight."  Physical therapists I worked with warned me of the consequences of my poor posture.  Once I retired I decided to address the issue.  Articles I had read over the years always referenced pilates for postural concerns.  My journey began at a now defunct general workout studio, followed by a large group class at a gym.  Even though I had little knowledge of the art, I knew there was more to it than I was experiencing.  A friend suggested June Hines Pilates.  I went home that day and saw an email offer from the studio and figured it was a sign.  When I learned that Matthew Morfopoulos, Joseph Pilates, and I shared the same birthday, I knew I had found my Pilates forever home.

How has Pilates helped you?

Arlene:  Pilates has improved my posture tremendously.  Now I am mindful to keep my shoulders aligned with my hips, always try to make the top of my head touch the sky, and do my best to keep my shoulders down.  Additionally, pilates has helped me with unexpected issues.  Several years ago, I was diagnosed with herniated L4 and L5 discs, spinal stenosis, and sciatica.  Specific pilates exercises alleviate discomfort associated with these conditions.   An important benefit, one I never counted on, is the wonderful friendships I have forged through June Hines Pilates.  With encouragement from my outstanding instructors, June, June, Sharon, Greg, and Katy, I continue to bolster my confidence as I explore and develop new skills.

Exercise of the Month

Swimming
Katy Dawley Swimming on the Spine Corrector

Swimming is an advanced exercise first learned on the mat.  It's a breathing exercise, sharing the same cadence as the 100.  Swimming is a great exercise with the purpose of coordinating the body, breathing and to strengthen/stretch not only the Powerhouse, back and legs.  Once learned on the mat, it can be performed elsewhere, including the barrels.
Pilates Performer
Anyone who is interested in having a Pilates performer please contact June at 267.312.7607.  This is a home model of the Reformer and it's owner is generously offering it to someone who would use it and give it a home.
Rydal Studio
Beginning on Monday August 6th the Rydal studio will be holding all lessons at the Jenkintown studio till October.  We are remodeling the kitchen and feel lessons will be best serviced in our Jenkintown studio.
