VISTA's "Black Gold" Mine
As you may know, VISTA has a small, mighty volunteer corps that meets weekly to sift the compost bins that produce the soil every garden bed enjoys. This is arduous work and the process to compost a single can takes about three to four months.
This is why we refer to the VISTA compost as "Black Gold". It is valuable, and its quantity is limited. That is why recent situations need to be brought to the community's attention so we can all commit to ensuring it does not happen again.
VISTA compost is intended for use as a side dressing of existing
plants, or as a soil amendment. It is
not
intended for entire cans to be added to individual beds as a soil replacement. In two instances, a total of four full cans of compost have been added to beds wholesale, setting the supply chain back by months.
We need to work together as a community to ensure this does not happen again so we all can use the compost in the manner it is intended.
Each bed should use no more than a total of five gallons of VISTA compost per 12 month cycle
to ensure all members have equal access to the fruits of that hard volunteer labor.

P.S. If you do not want to use the soil in the lanes to top off your beds (under the mulch), you can purchase high quality, organic soil from local suppliers like David Whitwam and Urban Roots.
