Board of Supervisors Highlights - June 6 

Moon Park Playground Construction Contract Awarded
Construction at the new Moon Park playground is set to begin as supervisors approved the award of the project contract to Murin & Murn, Inc. in the amount of $477,459. This amount is $147,000 below the engineer's estimate. Plans are in the works for a ground breaking ceremony, so watch for details to be available soon.

Township Receives Live Well Allegheny Designation
Dr. Karen Hacker, Director of the Allegheny  County Health Department, welcomed Moon Township to the Live Well Allegheny initiative.  Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution for Moon Township to participate in Live Well Allegheny in April. Led by the Allegheny County Health Department, the program aims to improve the health and wellness of Allegheny County residents by highlighting the need to increase physical activity, eat healthy, and be proactive in managing one's health, including physical and  mental wellness, personal and community safety, preparedness, efforts to improve well-being and quality of life, education and health literacy.  Plans  include activities in all 130 municipalities, the 90 neighborhoods in the City of Pittsburgh and the 43 school districts that call Allegheny County home. Austin Welsh Earns Eagle Scout Rank
The board recognized Austin Welsh for earning the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America As a member of Troop 905, Austin earned 34 merit badges and accumulated 287 combined service hours while serving in numerous troop leadership roles, including Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Quarter Master, Librarian, Webmaster, Historian and Scribe . For his Eagle Scout project, Austin planned, provided fundraising for, constructed and managed the installation of four bat boxes for Moon Township parks.

Moon Area Dance Teams Recognized for Outstanding Achievements
The board recognized the Moon Area School District dance teams for all their outstanding achievements in the 201 7-2018 season. The high school and middle school teams combined to perform Varsity Hip Hop routines at six local competitions, taking first place at four competitions and placing second in two. The high school team performed Varsity Jazz at four competitions, placing first in all of them. The middle school team performed Junior High Pom at four competitions, placing first in all of them. Junior Abigail Plitt performed a solo jazz routine and senior Lena Wilhelm performed a solo contemporary routine throughout the season, placing first in all competitions. Abigail placed second and Lena placed fourth at Nationals, and Lena placed second at an international competition at Disney. Finally, the teams attended the Hershey Elite Open National Championship on April 21, 2018 where the middle school team placed first for Junior High Pom, the high school team placed first for Varsity Jazz, and the combined team placed second for Varsity Hip Hop.

The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on M AG-TV, Comcast channel 18 or Verizon channel 37. New Resident Meeting

Whether you're new to Moon Township or you've lived here for many years, you're invited to join us at one of the upcoming New Resident Meetings. Come meet our supervisors and staff, learn about the township, ask questions, 
and share your ideas. 

Meetings are planned for Tuesdays June 12 and November 13 of this year and April 29 of next year. All meetings start at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. Light refreshments will be provided. Please call 412.262.1700 to RSVP.

Property Tax Information

2018 Township of Moon Property Taxes
We are now collecting the face (full/middle column on your tax statement) from June 1 to July 31. The 10 percent penalty period begins August 1 and runs through December 31, 2018.

2018 Moon Area School District Property Taxes
Moon Area School District property tax statements will be mailed July 1, 2018.  The two percent discount collection begins July 1 and continues through August 31, 2018. If you choose the option to pay four installments, the first installment MUST be received in the tax office no later than August 31. Coupons for the remaining three installments (due in September, October and November) will be mailed to the property owner. Post marked mail is always accepted.

How to Make Payments
Property owners may make payments in the following ways:

1. Online at moontaxoffice.us . Please note that installment payments can not be made online.

2. In person at the property tax office. Office hours are listed at the bottom of your property tax statement. Be sure to check the office website for holiday closings and other useful information.

3. By mailing your payment and statement to the address below. If you would like a stamped receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Change of Address
If a property owner's mailing address needs updated or changed for whatever reason, please contact me at the Moon Township tax office at 412.299.7446 as well as county treasurer John Weinstein at 412.350.4100, as soon as possible.

Battle of the Bands Returns with a Country Twist

Back by popular demand! Last year, Pittsburgh-area unsigned bands rocked out their best sets and put it all on the line at the first-ever Battle of the Bands competition. The contest returns to the Moon Park amphitheater with a country music twist! A panel of local music legends judging the competition and selecting the winner.

Firecracker 5K GLOW Run & Walk Registration Open

The Moon Township Farmers' Market opened this week. Lots of new vendors have signed up for the season, so be sure to stop by throughout the summer and see what good things they have to offer, including the freshest produce; meats; dairy; baked goods; beer, wine and spirits; coffee and tea; plants and flowers; antiques; and arts and crafts. Give yourself a night off from cooking and take home dinner from one of the prepared foods vendors. 

The market takes pride in being a traditional producer-only market where all vendors must grow or make at least 75 percent of their own products for sale. All vendors meet strict health and safety guidelines. The market accepts cash, debit and credit cards, and snap benefits. Free Television Production Course Starts July 12

There is so much going on in Moon it's hard to keep up. Help MCA-TV document and share these events by taking out a camera and recording an event, a concert, a sporting event or government meeting and help keep the community connected. I f you'd like to get in on the action, sign up for the next television production training course. Classes are free and open to residents of any community.
 
The training course is a series of four hands-on classes providing the basics of camera operation, lighting, audio and editing. Successful completion of the course provides the opportunity to be an official MCA-TV volunteer, ready and able to assist with any MCA-TV production.
 
Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays for four weeks beginning Thursday, July 12 at the MCA-TV studio located at 1700 Beaver Grade Road, Suite 140, Moon Township, PA 15108. To register, contact MCA-TV Director Allison Eastham at [email protected] or call 412.269.1191.  Space is limited.

Waste Management At Your Door Recycling Program

Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials.

There are three ways to schedule a collection:

After scheduling your collection date and time, a Waste Management representative will provide you with information and instructions for preparing your collection.
