Red Wing 2040
Did you miss our Red Wing 2040 Outdoor Open Houses? We'll be back with all the plans and ideas during River City Days August 3-5.

Here's how it works: Visit our tent and look over the ideas. Put green dots on things you like. Put red dots on things you don't. Write new ideas or questions on the sticky notes. Everything gets recorded in the RW 2040 Community Plan and used in identifying future priorities.

Still to come: Our online survey later in August will let you rate ideas at your own computer. Plans will also be uploaded on our web site after River City Days.

Welcome to the Board
As the City looks toward ways that kids and teens can have more influence in city government, we're excited to report that Brecken Hill has become the first Student Advisor of the Sister Cities Commission. Hill, a sophomore at Red Wing High School, was part of the 2017 student delegation that visited RW's sister city, Ikata, Japan. “I would like to give back to my community and be a part of something that changed my life,” Hill says. She will serve as a link between the schools and the Commission, which organizes exchange trips that students, teachers, and residents from take among our sister cities Ikata, Japan, and Quzhou, China. Welcome to the board, Brecken!
Behind the Barricades Tour
Construction around town disrupts a lot more than traffic; it disrupts tons of soil, too. How do we prevent that soil and debris from entering our storm drains, rivers, and creeks? Come with us behind the construction barricades and take a quick tour of the Highway 61 & Spring Creek Road work site.
An Ethical Opportunity
Tuesday, July 31st @ 6 p.m.
Red Wing Public Library
How do you work through conflict? What guides you when you have to make tough decisions? Ethics guide plenty of choices in our everyday lives. Join the Charter Commission for a presentation that covers these topics and more. Click here to view topics on the agenda. Bring your questions and an open mind; this presentation is for everyone.
Can You Find It?
This historic bench isn't hiding at all--it's sitting in plain sight. Do you know where it is? Here in Red Wing since 1938, the bench honors two renowned army nurses you'll remember from your history lessons. Happy hunting! Click here to tell us your answer, and you might win one of our summer prizes. (It's an unexpectedly great prize.) We'll report the answer and winner in the next issue of City Beat.
Congratulations to Sheila Behrens-Getzin. She's the third winner of our regular "Can You Find It" contest. Sheila knew the tower in our last issue sits just inside the entrance to Colvill Park. It was built in 2013 and provides a much-needed home for Chimney Swifts. Swifts, tiny birds with a chattering call, usually return to the tower at dusk for nesting, so go check them out!
Park & Walk
Don't let construction get you down--let it get you downtown and walking. Take the pledge to park and walk from our many parking lots to where you need to go. Downtown Main Street has partnered with Live Healthy Red Wing to post signs near free parking spots where you can mark how many steps it takes to get to your destination. For a parking ramp list, walking maps, and more information click here.
Answer the Call of the Wild
Make the most of our last month of summer and get outside with the Park Naturalists. They've got fantastic activities planned this month, and they're all FREE! So grab a friend and get outside.
All in a Day's Work
Kelsey Van Deusen is a storm water champion. As the City’s Environmental Service Manager, she works to protect one of our most critical assets: clean water. That's no small job in Red Wing. Since our town sits above the river, every storm drain and construction site is a potential risk to the health of our waterway. You're welcome to visit the Wastewater Treatment Facility and take a tour to learn exactly what Kelsey and her team do to protect our waters. They also set up programs in the community to teach clean water practices; email them today!
Career Central
If the world of complex accounting is your happy place, we just might have a job for you. We’re looking for a Finance Manager; are you the one we’re looking for? We’re also on the hunt for a couple of other positions. Check them out and send us your resume!
