2016 IHHF BIO SERIES: MICHAEL "RODIE" ROHDENBURG
Michael "Rodie" Rohdenburg was born and raised in Elmhurst, IL, where he continues to reside. Michael grew up an athlete, excelling in various sports such as football, baseball, wrestling, boxing, and track. As a kid, Michael always knew there was one sport missing from his repertoire: hockey. Getting a late start, Michael finally got his chance when he tried out for his high school hockey team. As a result of Michael's athleticism, hard work, and passion for the game as a Freshman he was second on his team with 41 goals and was eventually pulled up to varsity and played the last 7 games with them. By Michael Barrett, Illinois Referee in Chief & AHAI Supervisor of Officials ~ IHOA and AHAI congratulates the officials who earned the opportunity to work the championship games at the United Center on Friday, March 17, 2017. All of the officials selected to officiate the 2017 Illinois State Championship Games performed admirably throughout the various state tournament sites, and as a result of their efforts throughout the year, each of these officials earned the opportunity to work these games and their hard work and dedication to this great game was recognized by AHAI and IHOA. ILLINOIS REFEREE-IN-CHIEF & SUPERVISOR OF OFFICIALS ON THE SUPERVISION, MENTORING & EVALUATION OF OFFICIALS
By Michael Barrett ~ As the Illinois Referee in Chief and Supervisor of Officials, one of my many roles is to oversee and work with AHAI and IHOA (Illinois Hockey Officials Association) to develop, promote and administer a competitive officiating program. This program is meant to benefit Illinois officials and the organizations they serve by providing officials the opportunity to officiate in a competitive hockey environment and by offering high quality education, instruction and knowledge of officiating.  AHAI and IHOA collectively established various committees to provide supervision, mentoring, evaluation and development of officials via ice time and assignment of games. QUESTION: In a bantam game in the process of playing the puck during face-off one center knocks over the other. Is it the correct call to give the center still standing a charging minor + misconduct? ANSWER>>

QUESTION: Puck is shot into the defensive zone of Team A and a delayed off-sides is signaled. Before the off-side Team B player can leave the zone, the defenseman takes possession of the puck and skates near his net and accidentally puts the puck into his own goal. Is this considered a legal goal? ANSWER>>

NEW TRIER GREEN WAS PERFECT THIS SEASON (49-0) AGAINST ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS
Trevians win state championship ~ as does Glenbrook South and AWFM
By Ross FormanNew Trier Green dominated Illinois high school hockey all season, so it was no surprise that the Trevians claimed yet another state championship.  The Trevians defeated Providence Catholic 4-2 on Friday, March 17, at the United Center in the top-tiered Red Division, ending one of the best seasons in local hockey history.  New Trier finished 67-9 and didn't lose to an Illinois high school team all season (49-0). The Trevians were the No. 1-ranked team all season and won their last 32 games. FULL ARTICLE>>

HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS SET NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD AT THE UNITED CENTER
By Matt Brooks, Blackhawks Account Executive - Youth Hockey  ~  We hit an all-time record for attendance at the Illinois High School Hockey Championships on Friday, March 17th. We had 11,199 fans in attendance (13,992 tickets distributed), surpassing the previous high of 9,418 set in the 2015 game. We had a lot of great promotions for the youth hockey teams this year that really brought the younger generations out. Every Northwest Hockey League (NWHL) team who won a championship was invited to take a photo with their banner in the Blackhawks locker room. We had an AHAI only Meet and Greet with Jamal Mayers, Daniel Carcillo, Adam Burish, and Ben Eager and the Little Blackhawks On-Ice Photo before the Red Division Championship. READ MORE>>

Jill Reichenbach double rostered on Squirt and Girls teams before her family relocated to Singapore last year. We followed up with her mother, Leigh Anna, to share the experience:  When I told my 10 year old daughter, Jill, that our family would be relocating from Wilmette to Singapore, her first desperate question was, "Can I still play ice hockey?!"
