Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

I was reading the most recent edition of Presbyterian Outlook and came across this piece from their archives of 1968. They were referencing a statement from the Fourth Assembly of the World Council of Churches.  I thought it was beautifully written and then sighed and thought to myself, "we are still working on this, aren't we?" See prayer below.

"We heard the cry of those who long for peace; of the hungry and exploited who demand bread and justice; of the victim of discrimination who claim human dignity; and the inreasing millions who seek for the meaning of life."
We hear God say, "I go before you. ... Anticipate my Kingdom in joyful worship and daring acts. The Lord says, 'I make all things new.'"
All people "have become neighbors to one another. Torn by our diversities and tensions, we do not yet know how to live together. But God makes new. Christ wants his church to foreshadow a renewed human community.
Therefore, we Christians will manifest our unity in Christ by entering into full fellowship with those of other races, classes, age, religious and political convictions, in the place where we live. Especially we shall seek to overcome racism wherever it appears."

~ from "The message from Uppsala," an excerpt from the closing statement of the Fourth Assembly of the World Council of Churches

Next Sunday in worship, we will have a visit from Gregg Mitchell, Chief Advancement Officer of Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake.  He will offer a minute for mission, and I will trim down to a homily. Habitat does wonderful work, and I am very pleased that Ark and Dove has been a supporting church for well over 20 years. You all have done some great mission partnership work. I am figuring that our cash and in-kind donations have exceed $200,000.  We will be receiving our Special Offering for Habitat during August. See Cheryl Schafer's article below.

Peace of Christ,

Verse and Prayer
Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, and sound speech that cannot be censured; then any opponent will be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us.

- Titus 2:7-8
O God, you created all people in your image. We thank you for the astonishing variety of races and cultures in the world. Enrich our lives by ever-widening circles of friendship, and show us your presence in those who differ most from us, until our knowledge of your love is made perfect in our love for all your children; thorugh your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mission Ministry
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake
We are collecting a Special Offering this month for Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. Habitat of the Chesapeake will be celebrating 36 years of providing home ownership for low income families in Baltimore city and Howard and Anne Arundel counties. This month Habitat Chesapeake also marks the organizations 750th home dedication to date, having given 2,500 family members and 15 underserved communities an opportunity to build a brighter future. Habitat Chesapeake seeks "to put God's love into action.” Ark and Dove has been supporting Habitat for Humanity since the day we dedicated our building. We have definitely shown "action!" Ark and Dove youth and adults spend one week every year on a Habitat Mission trip. Your donations have also supported two builds in Anne Arundel County. Please continue to support Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. You can donate online or with your Special Offering envelope. Thank you. Cheryl Schafer, Mission Elder, csscas@verizon.net
Back to School with Anne Arundel County
The Mission Ministry is teaming up again this summer with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Department of Social Services to provide school supplies for local elementary and middle school students.  Social Services matched Ark & Dove with 35 students at Meade Heights Elementary School on Reece Road.   After worship service, July 29 through August 12, we will have sign-ups and provide detailed instructions and the Meade Heights supplies lists. Ark & Dove donors will select a student to sponsor, purchase the backpack and supplies, deliver them to the school before August 30th, or bring them to church by August 26th for delivery. We will also be teaming up again with Meade Middle School to collect supplies they need to support their students. For questions, or if you want to sign up, but can’t do so at church, please contact Greg Makar (301-483-8255, GLMakar@juno.com).
CAP West County Food of the Month
Featured item for July is CANNED FISH (tuna, salmon, etc.). Please drop off food items in the Mission Zone bin. Thank you for your donations!

Administration
Search Committee Progress
Despite being the middle of summer, our search teams for interim and new music directors are working on finding a new Music Director and new Contemporary Music Director. Just this week, Session approved the new job description for Music Director -- this person will be leading the music during our 9:30 services. The search team for the Music Director will be meeting on August 1st to get ready for advertising the position.

The search team for an interim music director at the 9:30 service has already interviewed a number of candidates and will be making a decision very soon. In the meantime, we thank Christina Nelson and Terrence Byrne for being our substitute music leaders.

The search team for Contemporary Music Director is almost set to start meeting. Thank you Laurie Barrow for chairing this team. We expect that some of the work done by the other search teams will be quite helpful in getting this team off to a running start.
