Spirit Wear Orders
Spirit Wear orders are in and will be delivered to your students class early this week!!! Please keep an eye out for orders to come home with your student. There will be another chance to order coming up in Spring if you would like to order more or missed out in September.

Join us at Night at the Races, Friday, November 22, 2019! A Night at the Races is a fun ADULT night out for parents, relatives and friends of Westlake Elementary School kids. Come enjoy dinner and bet on simulcasted horse races, side boards and prize baskets. Doors open at 6:00, races from 7:00-11:00 PM. Bring your own appetizers and adult beverages! WES PTA Nominating Committee
We need your help! Although it feels like the school year has just begun, we will quickly start thinking about what PTA looks like next year. This January, the PTA's Nominating Committee will meet and work to fill the PTA slate for the 2020-2021 school year. In order to have a well-rounded PTA slate, we like to have a well-rounded Nominating Committee with parents representing a variety of grade levels. Reflections Art Contest
Calling all creative students! It’s time for the annual PTA Reflections contest! The theme of this year’s contest is
Look Within
. Acceptable work can be a dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, or visual art. Learn more about the Reflections program

PTA Reflections Open Studio at Westlake Porter Public Library
Is your student struggling to find the time, workspace, or supplies to create art for the PTA Reflections contest?
Then stop by Porter Library during an upcoming open create session for
Reflections art projects. The library will provide some art supplies but feel free to bring your
own as well! All grade levels are welcome.
When: Friday, November 1 from 1-4 pm and/or Sunday, November 3 from 2-4 pm

- The classroom Halloween parties for Kindergarten are scheduled for Thursday, October 31, as follows: full day, 12-1 PM; ½ day AM, 10-10:45 AM; ½ day PM, 1:45-2:30 PM. Halloween costumes can be worn on party day. Complete costume guidelines coming shortly.

We are collaborating Westlake Police Department to host a program relating to social media, the mental health effects seen in our students, the issues our law enforcement are seeing in the community, and what role parents and schools play in keeping our youth safe.

Ryan Hill (Dover Intermediate School 6th Grade) and The City Mission of Cleveland want you to help prove that even the smallest act of kindness, like donating a pair of socks, can make a BIG difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

HOW CAN I HELP? Donate NEW (not washed, still in package) SOCKS. Any kind; men’s, women’s or children’s!
GOAL: To collect 1,000 pairs of socks by Halloween!

Kind Kid, Professional/Educator & Parent Award Nominations Now Open
Do you know a child who goes above and beyond to help others? If so, nominate him or her for the Connecting for Kids
Kind Kid Award
. The Kind Kid Award is given to a child 12 years of age or younger who demonstrates kindness and compassion to peers. The nomination should include specific examples of acts of kindness performed by the nominee.

found on the website. Every child nominated will receive a certificate to reinforce his or her actions.

Flyer Connection
- Gardens at Westlake Senior Living, 27569 Detroit Road, present Garden of Oz Munchkin Gathering trick-or-treating on Oct. 26, 2-4pm.
- Junior Achievement will host its 21st annual online auction Nov. 4-15 to help fund programs in schools all over Lake, Lorain, Cuyahoga, and Geauga counties.
- The Westlake Schools & Project Link present "Halloween Sky in the Planetarium" on Oct. 29. Program begins at 6:30pm.
- Westlake Porter Public Library Youth Services calendar of events for November 2019.
- Registration is now open for Dribbling Demons for boys grades 1-4. This program focuses on developing dribbling skills in a fun setting and culminates with performances at WHS boys Varsity games. Boys playing Varsity Prep in grades 3 & 4 are automatically enrolled. Practices begin Dec. 7.
- Westlake Youth Wrestling is now open to K-6th grades. Sign up and informational meeting is Oct. 30.
- WHS Student Council, clubs & teams are hosting an annual Halloween Fun Night on Oct. 23, 5:30-7:30pm, for children through 6th grade.
- Westlake Recreation Department offers basketball leagues for ages Kindergarten through high school. Registration deadline is Nov. 3.
- October spirit wear hours for The W Shop.
- Westlake Volleyball Academy for girls grades 2-6 will introduce participants to the Westlake volleyball family. Tryouts are Oct. 28 at LBMS. Registration due Oct. 24.
