When one of my grandsons was young he enjoyed playing a game with me. He would say, "Meme, what would you rather have, be attacked by a killer shark and it tear you in pieces or a 2000-pound elephant jump on you 100 times?" I would say, "I know I don't want either one of those". His persistent little voice would come back with, "Meme, you have to choose one! What would you rather have...." and he would go through the whole scenario again or choose something like a thousand monkeys eating my flesh or being thrown into a pit full of rattlesnakes! Again, I would respond, "No, I don't choose either one!"
What are you choosing? It is more than just a game! God has set before us life or death, blessings or curses. (Deuteronomy 30:19 "I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live.")
Our choices are witnessed by Heaven and earth. What we choose affects Heaven and what goes on here on earth. When we choose life it not only brings life to us, but it will bring life to our family and descendants!
How do we choose? First, we choose the One who is Life! We give our lives to Him and invite His spirit to lead all our decisions.
Next, we spend time with Him daily in His Word and in prayer. Jesus said that His sheep know His voice, so learn to recognize it! (You are ready to engage in the most exciting adventure of your life!) Ask Him to teach you how to recognize His voice more clearly!
Every day we have hundreds of choices we can make. We can be kind or rude, we can get angry or be forgiving. We can have pure thoughts or play with the temptation. We can speak words that agree with life or complain and grumble! We can be honest or not tell the clerk she overpaid us. Every time we make a choice we either open ourselves up to life or death, for us and our family! Heaven and the powers here on earth see us and witness what we do.
I know of a widow that was standing for her family in prayer. God was keeping her family and she saw His hand at work in their lives. But she got weary and didn't continue feeding her spirit with life. Soon she met someone that enticed her and not only did the widow fall into sin, but her family did too! Her choices opened a door for life when she was faithful, but also opened the door to the enemy who was witnessing her decisions!
I challenge you to choose life. Agree with Heaven and Heaven will help you! Agree with the powers of darkness at work here on earth and Hell will aide you too. What would you rather have?
