Encourage your students!
We started off the 19-20 school year with the "My 12 People" chapel program. Students were asked to choose 12 specific individuals they could show love to and pray for during this year. Some of the students have written letters to one or more of their "people." We hope you will encourage your student by addressing and mailing those letters for them if they're too young to do it themselves.

We also encourage our school parents to join their student in this program -- have YOU chosen 12 people? No pressure, just a suggestion!
Hide-and-Seek
Seventh graders (at left) enjoyed themselves last week at Camp Pollock , their science outdoor school. Thank you, Mrs. Voigt , for including these kinds of experiences for our SBJA students. Eighth graders went to outdoor school in Catalina last week, and sixth graders will be going to Astrocamp at the end of this month.
Did you attend Parenting Class?
Last Thursday evening was the first in a series of Parenting Classes featuring the book "Raising Self-Reliant Children in a Self-Indulgent World" by Dr. H. Stephen Glenn. Consider purchasing the book to more closely learn the concepts parents should follow to develop responsible young people.
On the Way to School
Everyone needs a good dose of perspective from time to time. We're giving our students that opportunity during our weekly chapel programs for three weeks as we divide the documentary On the Way to School into shorter segments (it's a 70 minute film). We suggest that every family rent or purchase this documentary to watch as a family. Our children have nothing to complain about, but still are not always thankful for what they have. Life could be so much harder. When we're given much, much is expected in return, and we need to raise our children with the expectation that they need to give back to the world. As it has been said, "Service is the rent we pay for taking up space on the earth!"
Rule #3
Avoid food products containing ingredients that no ordinary human would keep in the pantry.
Ethoxylated diglycerides? Cellulose? Xanthan gum? Calcum propionate? Ammonium sulfate? If you wouldn't cook with them yourself, why let others use these ingredients to cook for you? The food scientists' chemistry set is designed to extend shelf life, make old food look fresher and more appetizing than it really is, and get you to eat more. Whether or not any of these additives pose a proven hazard to your health, many of them haven't been eaten by humans for very long, so they are best avoided.

Please extend an invitation to all students' grandparents.
Remember
This is a POTLUCK where the parents send the food (all vegetarian).
