Hedi Kyle's Versatile Accordion Fold
with Connie Stricks

Although the accordion fold is not a complicated structure, Hedi Kyle, in her book, "The Art of the Fold," focuses on it for its versatility and endless possibilities.  At our September meeting, Connie Stricks will help us explore how to use this fold to create some very special structures. And along the way, she will introduce us to some specialty papers that work especially well for accordion-fold structures.

Please bring the following:
Cutting mat
Bone folder
Gluestick

$40 members   $50 non-members
$2 0 materials fee
CLASS FULL - Wait list only

Play with gelli plates, stencils, string, leaves, and other pattern-making materials as you cover papers with layers of acrylic painted monoprints. Your beautiful papers can be used later to make one of a kind artist books, folios, notecards, or gift boxes. Gelli plates are a firm but flexible surface used for rolling out paints or printing inks, upon which you arrange objects, stencils, or make marks that transfer to a paper when you rub it over the plate. Learn all about it! You'll take home a small gelli plate for continued experiments on your own, and learn how to make your own plates for future use. Gelli plates, paint, Shizen, Strathmore, and Canson papers, stencils and other mark making materials will be provided.

The concertina album binding elegantly holds a collection of photos or other images. When sitting on the shelf this album looks like a traditional book, but when open its panels stretch out for display. In this class we'll learn how to cut, fold, and hinge lengths of paper to make accordion-folded panels, cover boards with book cloth, inlay a cover plate, and join text block to cover structure. If you bring images to class, we will add them to the album.

IMPRINTS NEWS

Thanks to an anonymous donation by one of our Imprints patrons, we are pleased that a copy of IMPRINTS has been added to the rare book collection of the University of Arizona Poetry Center. I, along with my colleagues, took great joy in paging through the book and were all mesmerized by the gorgeous block prints."

IMPRINTS is also in the Rare Book Collection of University of Alaska Fairbanks.
