BHA understands that numerous trees fell or were damaged by Hurricane Dorian and we want to work with homeowners to facilitate necessary approvals for removal as quickly as possible. BHA asks property owners to ensure they know the appropriate process for getting approval.
Imminent Danger
Property owners who have a felled tree that presents an immediate and imminent danger to humans or property should take pictures and proceed with the tree removal. Pictures must be sent to Karen Mosteller (
karen@baldheadassociation.com) who will facilitate the dual, requisite approvals both for BHA and the Village of BHI. This is only for trees that have been damaged by the hurricane.
Regular Approval Process
If damaged trees do not present imminent danger to humans or property, please contact Karen and she'll facilitate approval of tree removal, typically within a couple of days. First, tag the trees that should be reviewed and then contact Karen to relay information about the damaged trees - property address, number of trees, kind of trees (if available) and owner contact information. Karen can be reached at
karen@baldheadassociation.com or 910-457-4676 x22.
BHA-Managed Drip Line Communities
Homeowners in one of the BHA-managed service areas -
Keeper's Landing, Sumner's Crescent or Sumner's Crescent - should not remove or trim any tree unless there is an immediate and imminent danger to humans or property. Individual owners in these communities do not own the trees and they cannot be removed or trimmed except by BHA's vendor. First thing on Monday morning, BHA staff will be working to identify and prioritize for removal trees that were damaged. Owners who have concerns about trees in those three areas should contact Pam Rainey (
pamr@baldheadassociation.com) and she'll add them to her list for review.
Know Your Lot Lines
As a quick reminder, please make sure you know for certain where your property lines are located. Numerous fines were levied after Hurricane Florence that were the result of property owners removing trees that were located on BHA common area instead of their own property without the Board's permission. BHA staff can help homeowners identify the approximate location of their lot lines. Contact Pam Rainey at p
