2019/2020 Program Year Worship Schedule

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Let me begin by thanking all of you who contacted me directly as well as all who attended the town hall meeting to share concerns as well as support of the schedule change for the Fall. I heard your concerns and I value your input and I especially appreciated some of the out-of-the-box ideas that were offered. As I shared in August, the primary reasons for the schedule change were that Rev. Stephen and I could not physically and spiritually sustain the current program year worship schedule without a third full-time clergy person, meet the pastoral care and discipleship needs of our church and school, and be part of the wider faith community. Financial constraints prevented us from staffing that position when Rev. Jenni moved on to Grace Church. While Rev. Katrina is now on-board half time as our Pastoral Care Associate, she is with us only two Sundays a month and balances her time with us and the UMBC Chaplaincy programs.
Rev. Joe Hart is a non-stipendiary priest associated with St. John’s. As full-time Head of the GBMC Spiritual Care Department, Rev. Joe only assists us from time to time as his schedule allows.
After hearing your concerns, and in consultation with the senior leadership team, worship coordinators, vestry, staff, and with much prayer, I have adjusted the weekly worship schedule so that it does not impact any one group in the parish disproportionally and still meets a number of goals that will hep us grow. The Fall schedule, attached to this email, will begin September 15
th.

It is a profound privilege to serve as your Rector and please know I do not take decisions such as these lightly. I am grateful for all that each of you bring to our common life and to our community. It is my hope that this revised Fall schedule will best serve St. John’s mission: “to bring all people to a closer relationship with God and each other in Jesus Christ.”
