Make a Difference in the
Financial Picture of CUC!
Are You Required to Take an RMD from your IRA?
Calling all those who must make minimum withdrawals from retirement accounts! Why not have some or all of those RMD's sent directly to CUC? Whatever the amount is, it will be counted as part of the required minimum but it will not show up on your 1099R as taxable. This is an excellent way to make sure your contribution is still deductible! Please consider donating a portion of your RMD as a way to support the ministry of Columbine United Church. Next Generation
Committee Our Next Generation Committee is dedicated to serving the children, youth, and families of CUC and providing them with the best experience on Sunday mornings and throughout the many seasons of the year. Our committee is looking for members to help us better serve our next generation and the Columbine community as a whole. Labyrinth at Hope Farms
Last Sunday, the middle school youth group shared with you their masterpiece of a labyrinth that they made at Lisa Kramer's farm out in Elizabeth, Colorado. This labyrinth is open to the public and is definitely worth the trip to Lisa's magnificent farm. Adult Leadership Needed for the High School Youth Group!
If you love spontaneous trips around town, serving the community, working with teenagers, if you have a sweet tooth and an extra 3 hours a week to dedicate, then do I have the perfect position for YOU! Staff Announcement
Josie Hamlen, our Executive Assistant, is retiring from CUC after many years of hard work here and moving to Arizona. Her last day is July 31st and we will be celebrating her at a light lunch reception after the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday, July 29th. If you would like to donate to a parting gift for Josie, please mark your check as "Josie Farewell". You can also give online at

School Supply Drive
Back to school time is almost here and it's time for the annual school supply drive. The Mission Committee is collecting school supplies July 15, 22 and 29 so we can deliver items to IFCS on July 30. Pick up a list of needed items at the Welcome Spot and help us help kids get off to a good start.

Family Promise
It has been a while, however our next Family Promise rotation is the week of August 5 - 12th. We need help with meals and overnights. If you can assist, please email Linda Chatfield at

or call (303) 506-6418. This is a very rewarding mission, helping homeless families get back on their feet while they are hosted at different churches a week at a time. We partner with St. James Presbyterian. Than you for considering helping with this amazing mission.
Food Donations Keep those food donations coming! The food bank needs canned veggies, canned tomatoes, shelf stable juices, crackers and cookies, plus condiments like barbeque sauce, ketchup and mustard.
Water Committee Update
We are sorry to announce that, due to civil unrest in Nicaragua, the work trip scheduled for February 2019 has been cancelled. We will continue to send much needed financial support to El Porvenir for water and sanitation projects. Please, also, support the El Porvenir staff and the people of Nicaragua with your prayers.
Save the Date for the Second Wind Fund Walk/Run
Yes, CUC has a team for Saturday, September 15, 2018 (9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) The Second Wind Walk/Run event is returning to Green Mountain this year! The Walk/Run has been going 17 years strong to raise funds to save the lives of youth at risk of suicide. Register on-line at

New CUC Car Stickers!
The marketing committee is proud to offer CUC members new car stickers for you to place on your vehicle to communicate our church's sense of "WHY." Limited quantity available. 3 designs! ("BE RADICALLY INCLUSIVE" "YOU ARE LOVED" and "LOVE IS LOVE"). If you take one from the Welcome Spot, please promise to place it prominently on your vehicle to share our message with the whole community.
Security Following the Council's direction we have a security team in place comprised of several members of the congregation. They've been studying the security needs of the building during worship and mid week activities. Thanks to Tag Worley, security cameras have been installed in strategic areas. On Sunday mornings members of the team are in the Narthex and sanctuary monitoring the needs of the attendees, everything from health concerns to people needing assistance. The committee is looking for more members to join in this ministry. It is our desire to create a safe and secure environment for every member of the congregation. Remember to buy, load, and use your King Soopers cards! We count on $1,000 a month in revenue from King Soopers card reloads, which pays for the monthly electric bill at CUC. It's easy and doesn't cost you anything.

Please join us in congratulating and thanking Josie Hamlen, our Executive Assistant, for her years of service at CUC next Sunday, July 29th between services as well as lunch after the 10:00 service. She will be retiring on July 31st and moving to Arizona in the fall.
Thank you to Dani Way and her mission trip students for their heartfelt and inspiring presentation during the services last Sunday!
