Malachi's Backpacks Distribution
Wednesday, July 25, 2018

Backpack day is more exciting than Christmas at Malachi's Storehouse. Admittedly, it is not as well-decorated and to be sure we are not dressed in the requisite red and green of the season of giving. But make no mistake, the hearts of children and their parents are as open and grateful as they are the day we give away toys. Each year, providing the Malachi's children with a new backpack to start school is an important way that Malachi's has loved and supported it's community. That's part of what made last year's backpack day so difficult. Last year, we didn't have enough backpacks to supply each child who came to Malachi's a backpack. We had the difficulty of walking a family into the backpack storeroom and asking the parent to decide which child would receive  a new backpack. Mildly put, it was excruciating. So when things are excruciating, we turn to God and to one another.

The Malachi Board met and prayed and decided to use the money that Virginia Ross gave some years ago as seed money for the Virginia Ross Memorial Backpack Fund. Virginia's heart for learning, teaching, and nurturing the fresh minds of children will be honored each time we give a backpack away. We will be able to see her impish grin in our mind's eye each time we give. Help us provide each child in our community with a backpack that empowers and enables them to be equally prepared to learn as the rest of the kids in class. Thanks for remembering Virginia, Malachi's kids, and the encouragement of Jesus who told us to welcome the stranger and take care of one another.

You con contribute to the Virginia Ross Memorial Fund or bring a new backpack for us to give away! Please have backpacks to the church by  July 23rd. To g ive online, click here If you contribute online, please use the drop-down function to access the Virginia Ross Memorial Backpack Fund.

Foyers Happenings

A delightful evening was shared among those that attended the Joe Alterman jazz concert . Good food, friendship, crisp breezes, and strings of beautiful music arising from the river!

Next Foyers event will be hosted by Allison Forbes on  August 11th, at her beautiful home.  Look for more information to follow. And by the way, Foyers events are open to every parishioner!

Shine A Light - Love In Action
Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 7:00 pm

Shine A Light Ministry invites you to join us on Thursday, July 26 at 7pm for our Fifth Annual Sandwich-Making and DMST (Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking) Education Event. Shine A Light packs healthy lunches for children on free school lunch programs who, when school is out, may not get a lunch. In fact, the lunch we provide may be a child's only meal that day. Shine A Light works with our partner, Action Ministries, to deliver 200 lunches to Action's distribution center.

There will be a speaker at 7pm, who will discuss how metro-Atlanta organizations (including the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta) are combating DMST. Following the program, at 7:30 our "assembly line" will make sandwiches and fill lunch bags. Typically, we are out by 9pm.

Have fun. Share fellowship. Put love into action by feeding at-risk youth.

Current, past, & future acolytes are invited to a pool party  Saturday, July 28, 1-4 p.m. at the Georgetown Rec Center,  4307 Old Georgetown Trail, Dunwoody . Meet at the clubhouse for snacks and games. Bring a towel if you want to swim. We'll have fun rain or shine.

RSVP to Dana Dolan by July 26: [email protected] or  (678) 467-4098 if you haven't already responded to the invite.
