Summer Reading for Adults!
We don't forget our adult readers when it comes to summer reading. Here are a few of our 2018 picks for the beach, the park and the backyard!

Hannah Kent
Out in paperback in July, this is a
very well told historical fiction set in Ireland in the late 1800's. Superstition, fairies, and myths abound, giving way to a murder.
Jennifer Chiaverini
Excellent historical fiction about John Wilkes Booth and the different women in his life. The book is full of history and exposes real people.
Beautifully written story of a mystery set in an English village. As the years pass, the passage of time is charted through nature--which also exposes possible solutions.

We're honored to be helping out at Park Hill Library's author event when they host graphic novelist, Nidhi Chanani. Nidhi's debut graphic novel,
Pashmina, is a Bookies favorite.

Talking about Aging and Dying
Expressing your wishes about how you would like to face aging and dying is never easy. But not talking about it won't make the inevitable go away. Now a local mother and daughter are taking on this conversation and helping others do it too.
Libby and Patty Bortz have been making presentations about how to approach these critical discussions as a family, and now they are launching a CD and booklet, entitled Mother & Daughter: Facing Life's Last Chapters so that their approach to the "estate planning of the heart" can be shared by more people.
There is more to the later years of life than having an up-to-date will. The Bortzs' discussions include sharing your wishes about staying in your own home, dealing with deteriorating health, financial affairs and end-of-life preferences. They emphasize the importance of discussing these matters early, when older family members can express their wishes for the future, giving their younger family members a map to follow if times get hard.
