The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) will be closing Gilmer Road, from Midlothian Road to Diamond Lake Road, to through traffic starting Thursday, June 7 at 6 a.m. and will reopen the afternoon of Friday, July 6. The closure is necessary to replace a culvert south of Sequoia Road. Local traffic will have access to Sequoia Road from the north and access to Darlington Drive from the south.

Detour Route: Midlothian Road to IL Route 60/83 to Diamond Lake Road.

The Mundelein Memorial Day Parade , will step off at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018 at the Metra station. The parade continues down Division Street to Pershing Avenue and concludes at Memorial Park.

The Wauconda Memorial Day Parade will step off at 10 am on Memorial Day, May 28. The parade travels along Main Street where families line the street hours before the parade begins to watch what has become one of the largest parades in Northern Illinois.

Mundelein High to Share Superintendent



In January 2018, two Mundelein elderly residents (90/91) fell victim to “Grandparent Scam” where they were defrauded of $4,000.00 in gift cards and $86,000.00 in cash within a one week period.

Mundelein Officer Reyes recognized the devastating affect this loss could have on these subjects and moved swiftly to gather as much information as he could about the offenders along with contacting the victims’ financial institution to begin the process of trying to track the distribution of the funds. Officer Reyes also contacted Investigator Poynor. Investigator Poynor was able to track the funds to a bank account of a subject living in New York. Investigator Poynor contacted NYPD, and was able to freeze the funds before they disappeared forever. Investigator Poynor conducted a very thorough investigation which identified several suspects in a multi-state financial crime ring that has accounted for millions of dollars of loss to victims throughout the US. Investigator Poynor was able to use the information he gathered to link these crimes and pass them onto a Federal Agency for further investigation and future charges.

Although they will probably not see charges here at a local level due to the complexity of the case, the victims were able to receive full reimbursement of the $86,000.00 in cash.

The family recently contacted Investigator Poynor and advised him that one of the elderly victims’ health took a turn for the worse and had to be put into a care facility. The family advised the placement into the facility would not have been possible had they not gotten the $86,000.00 back.

The past weeks were busy at Fremont Township! 86 Fremont sixth graders planted 500 native flowers and grasses and 37 trees and shrubs, as part of our ComEd Openlands Grant Project to support pollinators. Under the guidance of two master gardeners and a bumble expert, the kids learned how to correctly plant transplants and spread leaf mulch. Under supervision of teachers, they installed 3 informational signs and a bug hotel they built at school. With help of a master gardener, they planted a pollinator garden with plants choosen by them.

The Rules of the Road Review Course is designed to give drivers – especially senior citizens and persons with disabilities – the knowledge and confidence needed to renew or obtain a driver's license. The review course combines an explanation of the driving exam with a practice written exam.  Call Nancy at 847 223-2847 to register. It is free.

A Matter of Balance - Do you have concerns about falling? Would you like to learn more about how to reduce the fear of falling? You are eligible if you are 60 or older, ambulatory, or concerned about falling. This eight week workshop begins Thursday July 12 from 10 am til noon at Fremont Township. Call Kari Pohar to register at 847 740-6708.

Shredding Event, Saturday, July 21

9-11am or until the truck is full.

This is a free event sponsored by State Representative Nick Sauer and State Senator Dan McConchie.Remove all binder clips, booklet binders, or paper clips. Staples are acceptable. Up to 2 large banker box size worth of shredding per vehicle (not individual in vehicle). All those participating in the event are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item to the Fremont Township Food Pantry.
