Father's message
My Beloved Friends and Parishioners of the Saint Spyridon family,
The Church of God is not an institution, it is a miracle. It is a mystery as the Body of Christ. It is a mystery as a place of salvation. It is a mystery as life, hope and conversion. These are the fruits of the Holy Spirit that are given to us by Christ and that unite us to God and to one another.
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and Father, and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you!
Xρόνια πολλά,
With Christ's love,
Fr. Nicolas

Apolytikion for Pentecost in the Plagal Fourth Mode
Blessed art Thou, O Christ our God, Who hast shown forth the fishermen as supremely wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit, and through them didst draw the world into Thy net. O Befriender of man, glory be to Thee.
Seasonal Kontakion in the Plagal Fourth Mode
Once, when He descended and confounded the tongues, the Most High divided the nations; and when He divided the tongues of fire, He called all men into unity; and with one accord we glorify the All-holy Spirit.
Matins Gospel Reading
Holy Pentecost - The Reading is from John 20:19-23
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were gathered, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
  Epistle Reading
Prokeimenon. Plagal Fourth Mode. Psalm 18.4,1. - Their voice has gone out into all the earth. Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God.The reading is from Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11.
WHEN THE DAY of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontos and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God."

  Liturgical Gospel Reading
Holy Pentecost The Reading is from John 7:37-52; 8:12
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, "If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the Spirit, which those who believed in him were to receive; for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. When they heard these words, some of the people said, "This is really the prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ is descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" So there was a division among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did you not bring him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" The Pharisees answered them, "Are you led astray, you also? Have any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd, who do not know the law, are accursed." Nikodemos, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?" They replied, "Are you from Galilee too? Search and you will see that no prophet is to rise from Galilee." Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Restoration, Phase 3: We need your help! God bless you.
Beloved Friends and Parishioners of Saint Spyridon,
We are pleased to announce that the efforts for the restoration project of the Church are moving forward thanks to the generosity of the members of the community and of the larger St. Spyridon family. Phase 1 of the project is completed: the altar and the side aisles are restored. Many have witnessed the transformation of our beautiful church and have rediscovered the priceless works of the famous iconographers and artists that adorn the church, including Georgios Gliatas, a student of Fotis Kontoglou Nicholas Stratoulis, Constantine Youssis, Demetrius Pelekasis and Nicholas Engonopoulos. The series depicting the life of Christ on the iconostasis, is the only Byzantine work Engonopoulos has ever done. Completion of Phase 2 (upper level of the nave, dome, Evangelismos, etc.) Completion is scheduled for mid-March. While working in the dome, we encountered a few unforeseen obstacles: nine windows were broken, the concrete windowsills had to be replaced due to water damage, the duct work was in poor condition. And now Phase 3 , the balcony. Initially we had planned on starting this project in September, but we were informed by the scaffolding company that we could save $ 15,000 if we had the scaffolding moved directly into the balcony. The Parish Council being prudent with the funds raised and since it is cost effective, decided to move the scaffolding beginning of March to the balcony and begin in the final phase of the restoration project! We have been blessed to have parishioners, alumni, families and friends of St. Spyridon help us raise close to $ 400,000. However, we are still trying to raise the final $ 40,000 to complete the project. We would greatly appreciate any donation to help us continue with this crucial ministry of the church to preserve and promote our Greek Orthodox heritage in this beautiful country. Together, we know we can do it! Learn more about the restoration progress by visiting our website or by following us on Facebook.

Saturday, May 26 - Saturday of Souls
On Saturday, May 26, special service will be conducted and special prayers will be offered for all departed brothers and sisters in the Lord. “Kolyva” can be prepared and brought to Church together with the name of the deceased. To order Kolyva plates or to give names to the priest, please call the Church office. Please plan to attend the liturgies and give the names of your departed loved ones to Father Nicolas so that he may commemorate them during the Memorial Service. When these days appear, we know that we are approaching the Great Lent in preparation for Easter. The prayers for the dead benefit those who pray for the departed. They remind us that now is the time for moral development and improvement for faith, repentance, and love.
Please bring your slip with the names to church before the liturgy.
In Times of Illness
"Come, O blessed of my father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was sick and you visited me." (Matt. 25:31-46).
When a member of our Parish is ill and has been hospitalized or may be recuperating at home, the immediate family of the ill person should contact Father Nicolas at  (212) 795-5870 . It is beneficial to both the body and the soul when our priest prays for us when we are healthy or ill.

Seniors News
Our Seniors start meeting again every Tuesday and Thursday from 12pm to 2pm at church.Welcome back! God bless you. This ministry's significance for our community goes without saying.
Library News
W e are extremely excited to announce that our community is starting a parish library in the conference room. We already have a small selection of excellent books, especially for children. At this point, we need to increase the number of books and find one or two volunteers to start setting it up. If you are interested, please come and talk to me or call the church office.
