Industry News
"For the past several years, the aircraft teardown industry has been buffeted by a reduction in the number of aircraft being parted out, as moderate fuel prices and strong air traffic growth have kept midlife aircraft flying under lease extensions or renewals."
- MRO Network

"China's skies have always kept relatively clear of private jets. Commercial airliners fly so often that the country's major airports face chronic flight delays. But now private jets- the likes of small Cessna and Gulfstream planes- have a chance to do a lot more flying."
- Forbes

"As the global business and consumer environments become progressively online-centric, the MRO industry is catching up with this reality. Companies are increasingly turning to digital platforms, both as buyers and sellers across their supply chains- especially when trading components."

Association Update
From Amy Bann, Boeing Commercial Airplanes
Dear AFRA Members,

We are excited to see everyone in Scottsdale next month at the  annual meeting! The agenda has come together with new speakers and topics. It is sure to be a great time to connect and get updates on the latest developments in the field. Finalize travel arrangements if you have not yet- the hotel still has rooms available though the block rate is now booked up for some nights.

The Board has been focused on how we best provide value-added services and content to membership. Please keep ideas flowing our way as you have them. Of course our accreditation program is a core function. I also appreciate the government advocacy aspect- with circular economy and other legislation being considered, having AFRA handle the day to day monitoring and engagement is so helpful. What else would be of highest value to you?

We do have an upcoming Board election as well for three seats, so keep an eye out for emails as the vote nears just before the annual meeting.

Here at Boeing, we currently are doing the world's first dismantling of a composite fuselage aircraft, partnering with AFRA-accredited companies VAS and ELG. One of the first 787 Dreamliners was decommissioned so that its components can be repurposed for parts, recycling, and other uses. As the project moves forward, we hope to share lessons learned about emerging challenges and opportunities on this particular aircraft. For example, handling the large pieces of composite require new processes today because they are outside the norm. This peek into the future will be insightful in shaping systems for retiring aircraft in the coming decades.

Regards,
Amy
