Special Notice
Beginning June 1, Luther College will no longer provide cable television in individual student rooms on campus. Cable will continue to be provided in key, public areas on campus including social lounges in residence halls, Legends Fitness Center, Marty's, and several other locations. This change is being made due to several factors including the changing nature in which students consume media and the institutional cost for providing cable. With more students using streaming-based services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu or connecting to specific providers such as ESPN through an existing cable television subscription, it makes more sense for Luther to invest savings from this change into our wireless network which has been stressed over time with this transition to streaming services. Students provided feedback in decision making process via the Campus Life Committee. This summer,
ITS is investing more than $160,000 to make improvements to the campus wireless network. This include upgrades in Miller and Dieseth Halls (including Brunsdale Lounge), Brandt Hall, and the College Apartments.
Students who wish to acquire a cable television package will be able to subscribe directly with Mediacom. At the beginning of the fall semester, a Mediacom representative will be on campus to answer questions from students and/or to receive subscription requests.
