National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony
|
This week, the newest members of the National Junior Honor Society were inducted. Since 1929, NJHS has been recognizing the highest-achieving students in 6th through 9th grades. Modeled after its well-known companion program, the National Honor Society, NJHS provides a solid foundation for ambitious middle school students as they prepare for their high school and higher education pursuits.
Fairmont Private School junior high students are required to have the following qualifications, which are based on the five pillars of NJHS:
- Scholarship --- Per national guidelines, at a minimum, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.)
- Service --- This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
- Leadership --- Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
- Character --- The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
- Citizenship --- The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement; has a high regard for freedom and justice; respects the U.S. form of government; respects the law for all citizens at the local, state, and federal levels; and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility in activities such as scouting, community organizations, and school clubs.

Upcoming Presentation: The Fairmont College Promise and 529 Plans
Please join us on Wednesday, May 30, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Fairmont Anaheim Hills library for a special presentation regarding the Fairmont College Promise and your child's 529 savings plan.
This presentation will provide you with information regarding the Fairmont College Promise, which is our guarantee that each student who attends Fairmont from at least 7th through 12th grade will receive acceptance to and a scholarship from a top 100 college or university (as defined by U.S. News & World Report).
Additionally, you may now utilize your child's 529 plan to pay for his or her education at Fairmont. By doing so, you're investing in your child's future and helping to ensure that he or she is better prepared for college.
Fairmont Private Schools President and CEO, David Jackson, will spend time discussing how your investment in your student's education is backed by the Fairmont College Promise and will answer any questions you have.
We are thankful to have you as part of our Fairmont community, and we hope to see you there!

Fairmont Anaheim Hills Junior High Art Students Take Top Prizes at Muzeo
Fairmont's Girls Scout Troop #950 received its Silver Award for its project "Fairmont Garden." The garden is self-sustained to feed the various animals/reptiles at Fairmont Anaheim Hills. All four girls --- Ella D., Ayah M., Natalie R., and Riley S. --- have been in Girl Scouts at Fairmont since kindergarten and are part of the longest-running Girl Scout troop in Fairmont Private School history.
Yorba Linda Mayor Gene Hernandez presented them with the award, and the troop also received letters of recommendation from Mr. Jackson and Mr. Aloia for their achievements. Their next goal is the Journey for the Gold Award, and they will be among the 5.5 to 10 percent of Girl Scouts to achieve this honor. Ms. Cari Calvy is their Girl Scout leader.
Great job, girls! They would like to thank Fairmont Private School for its support!
