Trinity Sunday
This Sunday in worship we reflect on what it means to be made in the image of a trinitarian God. How might this often-confusing concept influence how we live as God's children? How might it inform our life together as we seek to be the church, created by God, redeemed by Christ, and sustained by the Holy Spirit? Join us as we ponder and celebrate this mystery! Amy Starr Redwine's sermon is titled "Bound" and scriptures are
Isaiah 6:1-8 & Romans 8:12-17.
Music Notes:
Both the organ prelude and postlude are based on the 4th century hymn, Te deum laudamus, the text of which is filled with images in reference to the triune nature of God, including the "thrice holy" of Isaiah 6. The choir presents Mendelssohn's heart-felt setting of the text Verleigh uns Frieden (Give peace in our time) based on Martin Luther's translation of the Latin text Da pacem Domine. We welcome soloist and high-school choral intern Jinle Glover, a junior from the Cleveland School of the Arts, presenting the aria How Beautiful Are the Feet from Handel's Messiah.
Children will remain in worship
. They are welcome in the children's area at the front of the sanctuary and we have activity bags available in the narthex.

Congratulations to Kevin Lowry, our Chaplain for Students, who will graduate on May 26 from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio with his Masters in Divinity with a Youth and Young Adult specialization. His capstone project was titled "Meeting Them Where They Are: A Pratical Theology for Encountering Emerging Adults along Their Spiritual Journey." At MTSO Kevin served as a student trustee on the Board of Trustees.

Outreach Opportunities
Food collection for the Covenant Food Pantry this Sunday
This Sunday the children will collect food and financial donations for our Covenant Food Pantry, open the last Wednesday and Friday of each month, Thursday afternoons in the Connection Center for students, and for emergencies.
Food Pantry which is in need of Spam/canned meat, Spaghettios, chili, canned stew, canned vegetables, corn muffin mix, fruit and pudding cups.

Specialized Help Needed for Covenant's 2018 Parade the Circle Entries!
In the spirit of "go big or go home," we've tackled a lot on the occasion of the McGaffin Carillon's 50
th
anniversary weekend,
including
committing to building a tower-shaped float surrounded by 47 wing-flapping bats! So if you're good with a hammer or saw...or would like to improve your skills...consider joining the crew who will be tackling this monumental tower float task! We will be meeting with artistic/designer staff from the Cleveland Museum of Art the weekend of May 26
th
and 27
th
for advice on how to cost-effectively replicate our church tower wrapped in bells. Our very own "Tool Guy" Ed Laylin has agreed to help transform this idea into reality. If this seems like something you might enjoy helping with, contact Barb Clint either via phone/text (216-385-5114) or via email

Construction not your thing? Then we have a completely different opportunity for you: helping to make bat wings for all of our Parade participants. We are aiming to have at least 25 kids and 25 adults marching in Parade the Circle on Saturday, June 9th. Parade marchers will wear black clothing (leggings, slacks, t-shirts) and custom-made wings. Rumor has it that we have a bat wing pattern from a prior year's entry, which we are tracking down. We will provide the fabric if you can provide your time and skills. 2018 Habitat 5k Walk-Run-Mosey
Please consider joining us on Saturday, June 16th at Edgewater Park at 10am for the Habitat for Humanity 17th-Annual Walk/Run/Mosey.

Camp Kesem, a nationwide organization with student chapters on college campuses, provides free week-long summer camps for kids whose parents have or have had cancer. This year, the CWRU chapter will host campers from throughout northeast Ohio, ages six through eighteen. Visit the reception table after worship on Sundays to learn about how you can help provide supplies, or contact Matthew Garrett for details.

McGaffin Carillon 50th Anniversary Celebration: June 9-11
Gospels Sculpted in Bronze
Did you know that up in the McGaffin Tower are hundreds of relief sculptures of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? Check Ezekiel 1:10 and Revelation 4:7 for the Bible verses that gave rise in early Christian theology to identifying the four writers with the symbols of man (or sometimes a book, since Matthew's is the first gospel in the New Testament), lion, ox, and eagle.
Carillon bells are really sculptures
cast of molten bronze
using a lost-wax technique, just like
Rodin's bronzes at the Art Museum. Bell foundries offer choices for decoration. Fifty years ago,
Covenant's carillon committee, chaired by the late George L. Hackett, selected a frieze of figures of the four evangelists and their medieval symbols, surrounding the shoulders of all 47 bells.
On the weekend of June 8-10, we will celebrate the ways in which this marvelous instrument has literally proclaimed the gospel for 50 years. Don't miss the concerts on Friday and Sunday and Covenant's "Bats in the Belfry" Parade the Circle float and Circle Village presence.
And, about 140 feet closer to terra firma than the bells, you can see the symbols in the ceramic tiles of the Williamson Chancel landing, too.
