A Word from the President
Waseca is celebrating 150 years! That milestone means a lot of history has happened to make Waseca the awesome community it is today.

Here are some tidbits for you on the history of downtown Waseca from the book "The Streets are Wider Now."  Ira Trowbridge, W. G Ward, and J.H Jenkins, city founders, planned buildings along blocks at the town center to give a sense of stability and prosperity to Waseca. The Main Street would provide supplies, services and entertainment to its citizens, farmers, and surrounding communities.

One hundred and two commercial buildings were erected in just three months. M ost were 22' wide by 60' deep. These buildings served as both business and home for many. In 1881, fire destroyed twelve buildings and again more in 1899. Most wooden buildings were rebuilt in brick. The bricks came from brickyards in Janesville, Waterville, and Mr. Messerknecht's kiln, northeast of Loon Lake. This gave uniformity to main street buildings. Merc hants advertised their locations in the "Brick Block" or brick building.

Brain power and muscle created the great city of Waseca! Building
community, takes group participation, strength of the whole community, and local understanding which contin ues to build Waseca as a premier place to live, work, and carry on a prosperous business.
