Conference Highlights
Here's a glimpse of the exceptional sessions you can attend. "Doc, Are You Sure He's Lame? An Equine Manager's Guide to Recognition and Causes of Subtle Lameness" (But really, anyone wanting to learn more about lameness can/should join!) Dr. Ashley Phelps brings her knowledge as a practicing veterinarian to help PATH Intl. Conference attendees improve their skills in determining lameness and distress in equines. She is with Ceva Animal Health, LLC, where she has advised veterinarians in hospitals and shelters on reducing stress during veterinary visits and hospitalization. In "Addressing Trauma With Equine-Assisted Learning," Rebecca Britt, the founder of Stable Moments, helps attendees learn how to improve the life course of foster and adopted children through equine-assisted learning utilizing community mentors. Finally, is your center interested in collaboration opportunities? "Interactive Vaulting: Collaboration Possibilities" with PATH Intl. Certified Advanced Instructor Naomi George can help! Interactive vaulting uses fewer resources than typical riding programs, allowing centers to serve more participants at a lower cost, opening the door to many partnership possibilities.

These are just a few of the more than 50 sessions you can explore during the preconference on Thursday and education sessions on Friday and Saturday.

Discounts on attractions, restaurants and events are available for attendees.

Equine Tips From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee

Feeding & Managing the Hard Keeper
By Jessica Normand, PATH Equine Welfare Committee Member

The term "hard keeper" is often used to describe those horses that have a hard time gaining or maintaining healthy weight. Your veterinarian is the best resource for evaluating the weight - more specifically, the fat and muscle cover - of the horses in your care. He/she will likely use framework such as the Henneke Body Condition Scoring System. Read more

The PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee encourages positive and engaging educational exploration from our readers - we'd love to hear your feedback! Please let us know if you have any questions about our tip or have a suggestion about specific topics you would be interested in learning more about in the future. Email Dr. Ashley Phelps, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee chair. Thank you!

Please join us on Community Connections!
We invite you to participate in lively, thought-provoking, and sometimes controversial discussions on the online PATH Intl. Equine Welfare community group. No matter your specific interests (EFP, therapeutic riding, hippotherapy, carriage driving, interactive vaulting, etc.), they ALL involve partnering with equines. This is the resource for all PATH Intl. members to exchange ideas, ask questions, offer comments and suggestions, and benefit from some of our industry's most experienced and qualified people. Click here to access the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Community group.
