Community Meeting | 6 p.m., Thursday, July 19
Lomond Elementary School Gym
The District will host a public Fernway Community Meeting on Thursday, July 19 at 6 p.m. at the Lomond Elementary School gym. District administrators, Fernway Principal Chris Hayward and Shaker Heights Fire Department Chief Patrick Sweeney will share available information and take questions from the community. Child care will be provided. Please email [email protected] if you plan to bring children. The meeting is open to all community members.
Installation of Security Fencing
Our disaster recovery contractor will install chain link fencing in the coming days for additional safety and to secure the Ardmore Road side of Fernway School.
Building Updates
Today, members of the Fernway staff were permitted to enter the building to remove their belongings and salvageable items.
Crews continue to work daily to keep the building safe and to remove and store salvageable items in shipping containers and climate-controlled storage, when necessary.
Fernway will remain lit at night to ensure the building's security. Power is currently being supplied to the building via generators.
The Shaker Schools Foundation has established the Fernway Fund to help with recovery efforts from the fire. All gifts to the Fernway Fund will be used to support teachers and students as they rebuild and re-envision their learning environments to benefit Fernway Elementary. Also, the Shaker Schools Foundation is collaborating and coordinating with the Shaker Heights Teachers Association and many community members and groups on fundraising efforts. Donate online.
Fernway Grounds Closed
The Fernway School grounds including the parking lot, the blacktop play area, playground and grassy areas are closed until further notice for safety reasons. Only authorized officials will be permitted into the building with an escort.
