MONETIZING THE VALUE OF RESILIENCY
Sustainable CUNY and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory have published the co-authored article, "Quantifying and Monetizing Renewable Energy Resiliency" in the journal Sustainability. The article outlines the work that NREL, CUNY and Katrisk conducted to estimate the value of resiliency from Renewable Energy (RE), and methods for monetizing the value of resiliency provided by RE in microgrids. You can find the article on the Smart DG Hub Resources page.

NYCEDC LAUNCHES COMMUNITY SOLAR GARDEN AT BROOKLYN ARMY TERMINAL
New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has launched an effort to bring a community solar garden to the Brooklyn Army Terminal. NYCEDC will provide up to 100,000 square feet of rooftop space to pilot a subscription-based, shared solar program for Sunset Park residents and local industrial businesses. NYC EDC is seeking proposals from solar providers and community organizations to establish subscription-based membership program in Sunset Park. Proposals for the shared solar program are due by May 23rd. NYCEDC's request for proposals (RFP) can be downloaded here.
The NYC Solar Partnership, led by Sustainable CUNY in collaboration with the NYC Mayor's Office of Sustainability and the New York City Economic Development Corporation, is responsible for advancing the Administration's efforts in solar capacity. The Solar Partnership is working to promote an equitable and self-sustaining solar market through two programs: Shared Solar NYC and Solarize NYC, a community-led group purchasing program.Shared Solar NYC supports Community Shared Solar (CSS) programs through the Shared Solar gateway.

SOLAR PIONEERS GATHER SOLARIZE LEADS, JOBS
Solarize Nehemiah, a campaign supported by Solarize NYC, has trained 16-to 19-year olds to conduct door-to-door outreach in their community on the benefits of the current Solarize campaign through a unique program: Solar Pioneers. The Pioneers, who receive stipends and first-hand knowledge on the opportunities a career in solar can provide, have thus far gathered more than 41 sales leads!

DG HUB POSTS NEW SOLAR+STORAGE CASE STUDIES
Two new case studies that highlight recent solar+storage projects have been developed under the DG Hub's Resilient Solar Project. One study details the development process of a solar+storage+generator microgrid installed on the SUNY New Paltz campus that will serve as a demonstration project. The second study focuses on a portfolio of solar+storage projects that are being installed under the "Solar for Sandy" initiative at sites across NYC, which will support "resiliency hubs" in flood-prone neighborhoods where emergency shelter capacity is limited.

SUFFOLK AND TONAWANDA HIT SOLSMART HEIGHTS
Sustainable CUNY's Solar Ombudsmen have assisted Suffolk County and the Town of Tonawanda in achieving SolSmart Gold and Silver, respectively. SolSmart is a U.S. Department of Energy-funded solar energy program for local governments that provides a nationally recognized designation to communities that take, or have taken, actions to reduce local barriers to solar energy. Suffolk, the state's fourth-largest county, and Tonawanda, with a population just over 70,000, reached their designations for being solar-friendly jurisdictions. If your community is interested in free assistance from the Ombudsman team and federal recognition for smart solar policies, please email

CUNY WORK TO BE PRESENTED AT INTERSOLAR AND AEC
Sustainable CUNY has been leading the collaborative effort to develop permitting guidelines for storage in NYC as part of its Smart DG Hub work supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, the State of New York and the City of New York. Tria Case, the University Director of Sustainability and Energy Conservation, presented on these efforts at the Advanced Energy Conference this week and will participate in a panel discussion on storage at the Intersolar and ESS Summit on April 4th in Manhattan. |
NYCHA TO BEGIN ACCEPTING SOLAR PROPOSALS
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will launch the platform for submitting feasibility proposals to its ACcelerating Community Empowered Shared Solar (ACCESSolar) program on April 25. The list of sites eligible for ACCESSolar is on the NYC Open Data Portal, and a link to the platform will be added to the NY Solar Map website once it is available. NYCHA will accept proposals on a rolling basis as they are submitted starting on April 25. |
NYSOLAR SMART PARTNER JURISDICTIONS
Currently over 70% of NYC's population has no access to solar either because they are renters or have a non-viable roof. CUNY is proud to be working to support Shared Solar in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Sustainability and the New York City Economic Development Program and has launched the Shared Solar NYC gateway. We are excited to add the Solar Garden at the Brooklyn Terminal to the gateway, which is designed to give NYC residents and businesses better access to solar energy by providing the information and support needed to host, develop or subscribe to clean renewable energy. Tria Case, University Director of Sustainability and Energy Conservation at the City University of New York (CUNY) and lead for NYSolar Smart, NYC Solar Partnership. |
