At Henry Ford Academies, acceptance to post-secondary education (a 2 or 4-year college/university, or other recognized pathway) is a graduation requirement.
Some have embraced College Decision Day as a ritual that supports a college-going culture and students' individual and collective achievements - and we love that they celebrate in very different ways!

n Detroit (above), there was a packed house on College Decision Day. Seniors signed college commitments, "rep'd" college spirit wear
, and provided an inspiring example to younger students.
In San Antonio (below), seniors attended a signing celebration during the city's College Destination Week, a high-energy event that brought together a range of schools and community leaders and highlighted available resources for support.

Henry Ford Academy: Alameda School for Art + Design's Piñatapalooza -- a family friendly interactive art show -- will be held at Travis Park. It's the only show in town where you can see the art, buy the art, and SMASH the art! Students have created an assortment of unique and beautiful piñatas. What's the HFA twist? Many are stuffed not with candy, but with surprises that are connected to the outside form. In addition to live piñata smashing, there will be on-site printmaking, mariachi performances, Folklorico dance performances, food trucks, and so much more.

Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies' District Night of the Arts (NOTA) is Detroit's largest K-12 visual art/design exhibition of the school year. F
or one night only, the public can view hundreds and hundreds of pieces of unique student artwork spanning four floors. Community projects with Hagopian World of Rugs, Humble Design, the Humane Society and more highlight the school's dedication to intentional connections between design education and the community.

Ford Thirty Under 30 Fellows Imagine Futures
During their second session of the year, Ford Thirty Under 30 fellows and their paired non-profits co-created an imagined future space that reflects positive impact of their work.
Using tools and methods from human-centered design helped them think both imaginatively and boldly to envision what that future might look like if they addressed issues of shelter and homelessness in transformational ways.

Don't Delay - Spots are Filling Quickly for Ford STEAM Lab Summer Camps!
Do you know a Detroit-area middle school student who dreams of making a mobile app - and a difference?
Help them make it a reality at HFLI's Ford STEAM Lab Summer Camp.
14 year-old Michael W. arrived at camp last summer with strong desire to build a business. Using Design Thinking principles, Michael and his fellow campers developed introductory coding skills and learned workforce skills to complete "Camp Finder," a working mobile app prototype to help middle school students find camps down the street or near a parent's out-of-town meeting or vacation destination.
Over the course of five days, they created a high-level business plan, and prepared and delivered an engaging product pitch presentation, complete with swag. "This camp brought people together. We learned how to develop a marketing strategy and an action plan. I have a new company starting soon, and my camp experience will help us strategize."

his spring, HFLI collaborated with Henry Ford Academy mathematics teacher Danielle DeGain to build her capacity and pilot another way to use HFLI's curriculum, tools and methods in a high school class setting.
"My 10th, 11th, and 12th grade STEAM students immersed themselves in the entrepreneurial process. They learned to take a timely and widespread problem, like school safety, and narrow their focus into concrete, realistic, and approachable solutions."
