Final email reminder: Online registration for 2018-19 is ongoing
Northwest News will go on hiatus during July, but before the break, please take this opportunity to remember to enroll your child for the 2018-19 school year if you have a new or returning student.
Online enrollment for both new and returning students is open at
www.nisdtx.org/enrollment, which is processed by PowerSchool. This service will gradually walk parents and guardians through the online enrollment process, with most information already entered for students returning to the district.
Families of returning students have been sent a "snap code" to register their children. This snap code will allow parents and guardians to begin updating their children's information, the majority of which will be pre-filled based on the 2017-18 school year's information. Parents and guardians should contact their children's campuses if they have issues with their snap codes; do not register a child without it or start a new enrollment from a different email address.
Northwest ISD will begin importing family email addresses for district communication during 2018-19 in the middle of July. If your child graduated in 2018 and you have no more children enrolled in the district, you should no longer receive this newsletter (barring any participation in other district activities that would include you in our mailing list). State champ Eaton baseball team to be featured in Haslet parade next week
|
The state champion Eaton High School baseball team will ride on the featured float in the city of Haslet's Independence Day Parade on Friday, June 29, recognizing the team's tremendous accomplishments this year.
Haslet's 17th annual Independence Day Parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. June 29 at the Haslet Community Park, located at 301 1st St. Following the parade - and prior to the event's fireworks celebration - Coach Jeremy Fatheree will address the crowd regarding the team's season.
The Eagle baseball team won the UIL 5A state championship on June 9 with a 4-1 victory over the Forney High School Jackrabbits. The championship is the school's first team state title in its history, and it comes in just the second year of varsity competition and first year with a senior class.

School board welcomes Ron Hastings as new member
|
 Ron Hastings, Northwest ISD's newest school board member, was officially sworn in for Place 7 at the district's May 29 school board meeting.
"I'm looking forward to serving kids and providing them with the tools to be successful," said Hastings. "I'm glad to be back in Northwest ISD."
Mr. Hastings came to Northwest ISD nearly 20 years ago as an assistant principal at Northwest High School and later became associate principal for curriculum and instruction. He retired from a 32-year career in education as the director of counseling and campus support in Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD. Mr. Hastings is a proud supporter of public education and has a family with a background in the field - his father was a superintendent and college professor.
He and his wife of 48 years have two children and five grandchildren; two of those grandchildren attend Northwest ISD schools. Mr. Hastings is an avid University of Oklahoma Sooner fan and tries to attend all of the home football games each fall. He enjoys fixing things and currently has an old tractor he is repairing.
"I feel called to serve our community as a school board member," he said. "The opportunity to continue to help kids and give back to our community is important to me." |

Summer is here, which means many schools and programs are hosting annual camps! Seen above, the Byron Nelson High School girls soccer camp takes place on Monday, June 18.

| Beck, Wilson named to Schools Transforming Learning list |
Northwest ISD's Beck Elementary School and Wilson Middle School have received distinction as Schools Transforming Learning by the Principals' Institute, honoring each school's commitment to providing innovative educational services.
Just 31 schools across Texas were named to the 2018 Schools Transforming Learning list, which considers unique learning opportunities and whether all students' needs are met. Nominations for the distinction were open to more than 72 public school districts across the state involved in the professional organization.
Schools were selected to the list based on their work to advance student learning, including evolving at least one of the following categories: digital learning environments, learning assessments, learning accountability, organizational structure or partnerships.

Graduation photos available online

Graduation ceremonies were held the first two days of June, with Steele Accelerated High School graduating on June 1 and the district's three comprehensive high schools - Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest - graduating on June 2. Photos of each ceremony can be found at the following links:
Please note these are not the professional photos taken on and behind the stage at graduation ceremonies. Students filled out cards with their contact information before graduating, which the company that took professional photos will use to send proofs and ordering information.

Pre-K registration still ongoing
|
Registration for pre-kindergarten is still ongoing, and spots remain available in the tuition-based program at many district schools.
All schools with pre-K still have openings for the state-funded pre-K program for those who meet the criteria, while some schools are closed for the tuition-based program because of enrollment numbers being met. For more information about pre-K offerings in Northwest ISD, visit
