An Invitation to Write

"The last of the human freedoms: to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
~Victor Frankl

What supports you in your choice of attitude? Meditation? Nature? Family? Pets? Go!

Spaces:
Where We Are - An Invitation to Gather

May 28, 7-8:30pm

We invite you to join us for a virtual community gathering, hosted by Lisa Rocklin. A few open mic slots remain for sign up the day of the event. All are invited to be present to listen. Let's be in this together.

At this open mic-style gathering, you're invited to share writing that speaks to your idea of Spaces: Where We Are.

Write about the space you're in, or the space you long for. Where you tend to yourself or serve others. Is it a refuge, or just another surface to wipe? Is your space a desk, a room, a home? A thought or feeling? Have you cultivated a generous head- or heart-space? Do you feel walls closing in? Has your physical location helped or hindered your writing practice?

FREE registration is required for all participants--whether listening or reading--to receive a Zoom link.

Your Gifts Matter

Please consider a special gift to support writing circles during this time of uncertainty.

Note that the CARES Act allows deductions for 2020 charitable gifts up to $300 ($600 for couples.) These deductions are "above the line" without requirement to itemize.

Phebe Beiser Retires After
Eight Years as Facilitator

In April, Thursday AM Core Class members expressed their gratitude to long-time facilitator, Phebe Beiser, who retired after eight years facilitating this circle of loyal writers. Class members and friends are funding  Phebe Beiser Honorary Scholarships to show their deep appreciation for Phebe's work and to contribute to the accessibility of writing circles for all.

From Phebe:

I know when people say "it's been an honor" it can sound so clichéd and possibly an exaggeration. I'll say it anyway: it's been an honor to facilitate classes at Women Writing for (a) Change all these years. I was facilitator, timekeeper, and vibes watcher hearing words from strangers who became sisters in writing and sometimes, friends. To 'hold' an entire range of emotions that rise forth from fast writes; to hear insights; to listen to worlds created from imagination. It can become a spiritual experience when the circle connects so deeply.

I'll miss the Thursday morning women. There was a strong core of regulars who came back year after year. Yet I knew I had to leave. Turning 70, I was starting to feel a tiredness. I knew there were women ready and able to take their turn in the facilitator's chair. Elizabeth Mannion was a 'regular' and will slide right into that special space. I'm not leaving WWf(a)C, though! Can't wait to see you all when we can once again be in physical space together.

Phebe

From the entire Women Writing for (a) Change community, a huge thank you to Phebe, and best wishes for a relaxing and happy retirement!

As we transition, please help us welcome Elizabeth Mannion, who begins facilitating the Thursday morning class in June!

To support the health and creativity of our young writers and their families, our 2020 Summer Camp Sessions are now exclusively Virtual, with
appropriately modified schedules and activities for each age group that maintain our focus on creativity and community-building.  These programs, facilitated on the Zoom platform, run on the same scheduled week of camp, with condensed online hours Monday through Friday, as well as reduced fees. Themes and facilitators for each camp will remain the same. Intentionality will be maintained  virtually  through our regular WWf(a)C practices. Craft and writing prompt packets will be available for pickup and snail mail/email prior to the start of camp!  We can't wait to see you this summer!

We're offering FREE One-Hour Virtual Camp Samplers May 18 through 21 -- a great way to allow writers and their families the opportunity to see if the virtual platform is a good fit for writing in community!

Upcoming Classes
Out of an abundance of caution for the health and wellbeing of all, and in order to maintain the best possible experience in our adult and youth writing programs, all adult summer classes and youth summer classes and camps will be held VIRTUALLY, through July 31, 2020. *Please click the class name for details and to Register.  Many courses run several weeks.
