Sunday Readings and Music

The Readings for this Sunday
In our opening lesson the Lord denounces the rulers who have so poorly shepherded the people Israel. God will gather the flock together and give them new shepherds, especially a just ruler in the line of David. Jeremiah prophesied during the year that Babylon was conquering his country, and while Judah’s last king Zedekiah (part of whose name means
righteousness) was ruling in Jerusalem. God would now have to act as shepherd to this people, and will finally fulfill Israel’s dream by raising up a wise and truly righteous ruler.
The Lord is shepherd and guide. God is present in the time of danger and is generous and merciful.
This passage is a celebration of the new community of a unified humanity which God has formed and built up through Christ Jesus. Before this time Gentiles lived a life distant from God and the hope of God’s promises. Now through the sacrifice of Christ, the power of the law to separate and the wall of hostility are broken down. Former strangers have found peace and become fellow citizens who share in the Lord’s spiritual temple.
In our gospel lesson the apostles return from their first mission and are summoned away by Jesus to a place of solitude and restoration. There is such urgent need among the people, however, that Jesus and his disciples are met by large crowds everywhere they go. Jesus is a compassionate shepherd and responds to the need of the multitude in teaching and healing, and all who come to him find solace.

Because of Camp (Stevens) …
…"I feel more at one with nature due to no phone usage, clean air, and clear skies."

I have been associated with Camp Stevens since 1983. Until my illness in 2008 I regularly took part in their programs for adults and youth. My experiences at the Camp and with the Staff and with those served has been transformative. In fact these experiences with the Camp, the Staff and the "campers" continues to be a source of inspiration and learning for me. I know that the youth we will help with our contributions will learn and experience people and events--with God's grace--that will change their lives in ways we can barely imagine. ~Fr. Dan

[Episcopal News Service – Austin, Texas] In an overwhelming voice vote, the House of Deputies on July 11 concurred with a plan for liturgical and prayer book revision that had been adopted by the House of Bishops the day

Praying for All, Praying for You

Collect for Proper 11
Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

A prayer offered with anointing for healing
"
Name," I lay my hands upon you and anoint you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, praying that our Savior Jesus Christ will sustain you, drive away sickness of body and mind and spirit, and give you that victory of life and peace which will enable you to serve and rejoice in God both now and evermore. Amen.

On Thursday, June 28, 2018 the Bishop's Committee met. Most of the time was spent discussing the need to modify our plans for the "Back Deck Project." The Bishop's Committee passed the following motions in order to proceed with a revised plan:
- A motion to accept the current [and revised] design [of the Back Deck Project]. All were in favor. Robyn abstained. [Bracketed items] added for clarity.
- A motion to have the People’s Warden contact a person/business to investigate load-bearing conditions [of the ground sloping to the Creek] in order to proceed with [re]design development. All were in favor. Robyn abstained. [Bracketed items] added for clarity.
If you have questions you contact any of the members of the Bishop's Committee: Jacque, Jim, Terry, Julie, Robyn, or me. ~Fr. Dan
