Many thanks to our partners in the Community
At Gavilan College the season of giving has begun early, and I am excited to share some incredible news with our campus community.
Announcing the Edward Boss Prado Foundation's Scholarship Fund for Career Education students
At our recent
Through the Decades Centennial Gala
event a highlight was certainly the presentation of a check for
$30,000 from the
Edward Boss Prado Foundation
. These funds will be targeted specifically for
Prado On The Go
scholarships to students pursuing Career Education pathways, to help them to achieve success in well-paying careers. Gavilan's Career Education programs include HVAC, Digital Media, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Water Resources Management, Nursing, Cosmetology, Computer Science, and Administration of Justice. According to the Edward Boss Prado Foundation's board, in a recent statement "Education and Training are the essential elements to close the skills gap and provide higher incomes and the workers needed for businesses to expand." We are proud to partner with the Edward Boss Prado Foundation in this important endeavor. For more information about the Prado On The Go Scholarships, contact the
Gavilan College Office of Financial Aid
.
We were further able to celebrate the founder of the Edward Boss Prado Foundation, Cecelia Ponzini, earlier this week at the annual
Community Spirit Awards
in Morgan Hill. The Community Spirit Awards are a source of pride for the college, and were created in 1999 by our Board of Trustees as a way to recognize contributions in each of the communities which form the Gavilan Joint Community College District. These awards honor the people and institutions that contribute to improving the quality of life in each community where our students live. Each of the three sets of awards includes an individual, a business, and an organization, with stories of inspiration and service that are shared at the awards ceremony each year. This year the award recipients are:
Morgan Hill / San Martin:
• Individual - Cecelia Ponzini
• Organization - Operation Freedom Paws
• Business - Creative Manufacturing Solutions
Gilroy: (Awards will be presented at the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce November Breakfast on November 20.
RSVP
)
• Individual - Michele Pierson
• Organization - Gilroy Police Department
• Business - Straw Hat Pizza
San Benito County: (Awards to be presented at the Hollister Downtown Association October breakfast on October 24.
RSVP
)
• Individual - Kent Child
• Organization - Hollister Elks Lodge
• Business - DLG Printing
Thank you all for what you give to our community, our students and our college. We appreciate having this opportunity to celebrate you, especially during our centennial year!
