F ranklin, Conn. --T he Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) and the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) have announced a partnership to support the expansion and replication of the Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI) . The partnership will work to increase awareness among employers, jobseekers, educational institutions and workforce development organizations, regarding the potential for the program to serve other manufacturers, geographic areas, and industries throughout New England.

"NEBHE is pleased to be a partner with the Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative to identify new opportunities for supporting manufacturing in Connecticut and beyond. As a valued resource to education, business, and government leaders in New England, NEBHE works to identify innovative and successful solutions like the MPI. Given its dramatic workforce impact in Connecticut, we will partner to replicate MPI's collaborative workforce pipeline model elsewhere in New England," said NEBHE President Michael K. Thomas.

The MPI was created by EWIB in concert with 27 other stakeholders, including employers, organized labor, colleges, economic development organizations, high schools, and technical schools. The program aims to raise the baseline of the labor force's competencies to align with skills that are in demand by manufacturers. Program applicants are sourced by the region's American Job Centers, creating a talent pipeline from the public workforce system that is connected to the hiring needs of employers. The core elements of the MPI are rigorous skills training classes (150 - 300 hours in duration) with employer-designed curriculum. The program has resulted in approximately 1,000 job placements since its inception two years ago.

"We are pleased to have a strategic partner like NEBHE. The Pipeline program has great potential to support employers and jobseekers throughout New England, and this partnership will facilitate that possibility," said Chris Jewell, EWIB Chair. "The MPI is a public/private partnership that has produced results for the jobseeker, the employer, and the taxpayer given its strong return-on-investment."
