Business News From The City of Frederick, Maryland
April 2018

Hello
In the 1987 comedy film
Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Steven Martin and John Candy share a three-day odyssey of misadventures using many forms of transportation to get home for a holiday. A diverted plane, broken down train locomotive, over-crowded bus ride, and car accident leave them stranded and the audience howling. Although that movie is a spoof, many of us can identify, having had our own transportation challenges over the years.
This all leads me to the point of this month’s Business ENews - that progressive transportation planning today is quickly changing the movement paradigm to include “complete streets,” for bicyclists and pedestrians, multi-purpose trails, aviation facilities, multi-modal transit centers (like in Downtown Frederick), rapid bus transit, shuttles, circulators, and now self-driving electric vehicles. Frederick continues to innovate its transportation systems to help attract business investment and use “smart” multi-modal systems championed by the City’s transportation planner Tim Davis and engineer Cherian Eapen.
Best regards,
