Register Now: Golden Spoke Rides and Event!

Join us to celebrate over 100 miles of safe, separated, and connected multi-use trails linking Ogden and Provo on Saturday, June 2.

The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC), in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation; Utah Transit Authority; Bike Utah; Jordan River Commission; Mountainland Association of Governments; Utah Department of Health; Utah Governor’s Office of Outdoor Recreation; and Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber counties, invites you to participate in a group bike ride and family-friendly event to celebrate the completion of the Golden Spoke network. The Golden Spoke consists of over 100 miles of safe, separated, and connected multi-use trails, including Ogden River Parkway, Denver and Rio Grande Western Rail Trail, Legacy Trail, Jordan River Trail, Murdock Canal Trail, and Provo River Parkway, and links Ogden and Provo. Additionally, it is the longest, connected, paved trail west of the Mississippi River!

This free event includes two simultaneous group bike rides. One ride begins at Rainbow Gardens in Ogden Canyon and travels south (approximately 47 miles), while a second ride begins at Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon and travels north (approximately 57 miles). The two group bike rides will converge in the center of the connected trails at the new Jordan River Bridge in Salt Lake City. Community members will have the opportunity to join at multiple points along the trails for a shorter ride, run, or walk. Additionally, there will be community events hosted along the way, as well as a final celebration at the Fisher Mansion in Salt Lake City, which will include guest speakers and family-friendly activities.

WFRC is hiring a new active transportation planner! Just as active transportation (AT) is an integral part of the Wasatch Front region’s transportation system, the AT planner is an integral part of WFRC's long-range planning group. This position will be responsible for short- and long-range planning, development, coordination, and assisting in the implementation of AT projects. In an effort to promote interest and investment in AT, this position will strengthen partnerships with local jurisdictions, regional partners, community-based organizations, and the private sector. The AT planner will also perform a variety of professional and technical duties to assist in the development and maintenance of long-range regional transportation plans and programs.

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Survey

The Wasatch Front Economic Development District (WFEDD) furthers regional economic development activities through coordination of longer-term planning activities, collaboration and partnerships, and the development and implementation of the Wasatch Front region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS analyzes the region’s economic conditions, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges, and is revised every five years, as required by the US Economic Development Administration. Additionally, it is part of our region's broader Wasatch Choice 2050 Vision for growth and development.

In an effort to better understand the region's economic development goals and needs, as well as update the CEDS, the WFEDD requests your participation in a brief online survey. The survey is open to all and completion of the survey is requested by May 31, 2018. Please forward the survey to others who you think may also be interested.

SECOND ANNUAL

Quality Communities Academy

For the second year, Envision Utah will partner with planners, designers, community development leaders, and other professionals to host an academy covering topics essential to building and maintaining communities with a high quality of life.

The Quality Communities Academy is tailored towards planning commissioners and city councilors and will focus on some of the most important topics and considerations for developing quality communities. Academy speakers will include Julie Bjornstad, Wasatch Front Regional Council; Jim Wood, Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute; Ari Bruening, Envision Utah; Evan Curtis, Governor's Office of Management and Budget; and Susie Becker, Zions Bank.

The workshop will be broadcast through the Utah State University Extension campuses in eight counties across the state, including Taylorsville, Kaysville, Vernal, Brigham City, Moab, St. George, Orem, and Ephraim.
