Dear Reader

There is a hole in our economy somewhere.
A hole leading to economic leakage.

The insurance companies collectively have paid out almost a billion dollars in insurance settlements on St. Maarten.

Yet we don't see that reflected in the economic activity on the island.

If you pump a billion dollars into a small island economy like St. Maarten, you are supposed to see a huge boost in economic activity on the island. Also an increase in turnover tax revenues.

We don't see it.

That tells us that there is an enormous leakage of cash in our economy.

In other words, that money is not being spent on our island.

That money is going somewhere else.

Capital flight?
Where to?
How?

Something to think about over the weekend.

Best regards,

Terrance Rey
