Our Mission:
Supporting lifelong faith formation in the home and congregation.

From the President's Desk

Dear Friends,

What a blessing to meet so many of you in Houston. It was a joy and privilege to spend my days volunteering at the Renewal/Prayer/Revival Team's prayer area. I have said many times that our youth amaze me. The depth of their faith is a testament to the work you are doing in their home congregations and with their families. Thank you.

So, join me with a cup of your favorite beverage and allow me to introduce myself.

Blessings on your journey,

Pastor Juli Lejman-Guy, President

6 Questions and a Cup of Coffee with... CENetwork President, Juli Lejman-Guy

1. Can you describe your call to ministry?

When I was a child in rural Indiana, I knew I wanted to work in the church. At that time, there were not many women pastors so I thought I would work at Lake Luther Bible Camp in Angola, Indiana. During my school years we moved to Michigan City, Indiana, and later to Blue Springs, Missouri. Each time God placed in my life pastors, teachers and bishops who encouraged me in my calling.

While at Purdue University (and with many different majors), my advisor said, "You know you want to do this church thing, so save your parents some money, graduate and go to seminary!".

Instead I graduated, married, and moved to North Carolina before attending Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.

Looking back, I can see how God was at work in each place preparing me for the work I would be called to do.

2. What is the best part of your ministry now?

Anything to do with discipleship, faith-formation, prayer and helping others grow in their baptismal promises.

Currently I am serving as the interim pastor for a wonderful congregation in Northwestern Ohio where many of the members are farming families. To see three and four generations of families worshiping together is always a joy.

3. What is one fact about you that would surprise people?

While in North Carolina I completed my EMT certification.

4. What are three things Christian educators need to keep their eye on?
  • The Word. Helping those we serve to hear God's word of grace, love and forgiveness in the midst of the anxieties of the world.
  • Growing disciples and vital congregations. Helping the congregation to understand Christian education/faith formation as more than a "kid's thing ."
  • The larger Church. Helping the congregation to see beyond themselves as we look for new ways of being in ministry in the midst of declining membership, financial resources and available ministers.

5. What are some of your favorite resources?
  • My spiritual director.
 6. How can we pray for you?

As the president of the Christian Education Network of the ELCA, I ask that you pray for the entire board as we discern where God is calling us to serve and minister.

Holy and gracious God,

Please keep us in your care. Help us through our struggles, guide us when we feel lost, and keep watch over us in all we do. Keep us safe, help to remind us that you are always with us, and that you are our guide and companion in all we doing this summer. We ask this in your holy name.

Amen.
