Staffing Updates

Our Drama teacher, Becca Vourvoulas will relocating to North Carolina this summer as her husband has been reassigned to Fort Bragg as part of Joint Special Operations Command. We wish Becca and Steve all the best and thank her for her dedication to our students.

We are happy to welcome Rhonda Saunders as our new Drama teacher next year. Rhonda received her Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Theater Studies from the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK and her Master of Arts from the University of East Anglia in Norfolk, UK. She also received a postgraduate certificate from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, our equivalent to a teaching certificate.

Rhonda has been the owner/manager of Leaping Hare preschool for the past 5 years. Previously, she was the Head of the Drama department and an English teacher at the Langley School in Norfolk, UK. Rhonda has also directed/produced numerous children's productions as well as teaching classes in playwriting, stage make-up, set design and improvisation.

PPF News

Thank you so much to everyone that contributed to the Teacher Appreciation Week fund this year. We had such a great time with the teachers and faculty members this week. I’m not sure if we topped last year, but the reviews so far seem to indicate that we might have!  We are already kicking around ideas for next year!

Again, the PPF would like to extend a hearty thank you to the amazing teachers and faculty members that make Peabody School such an amazing place for our kids!

The Grand Prize Winner of the Tropical Dress-down Contest was Mr. Brinkop! Ms. Wilson was a distant but deserving runner-up! We can’t wait to round up and post more pictures of the fun events on the Peabody School Facebook page next week.

This Week in Middle School...

Please join us for our first Panther Corps Share Fair! Each 7th and 8th Grade student has spent the whole year working on a community project of their choosing. Come see how our Peabody students are making an impact on our community. Student exhibits will be on display on May 22nd from 1:00-2:30PM and May 23rd from 8:30-10:00AM.
Mutligenre Madness is coming!

The eighth graders are busily working on their culminating writing projects. Topics have been chosen, research continues, and the crafting of a range of pieces of their choice is in the works. We all are looking forward to witnessing these comprehensive projects that uniquely convey "the story behind the story" of their self-selected area of interest. We hope you will join us in the gym for the unveiling of their work on 5/29 from 1:00-2:30 or 5/30 from 8:30-10:00.
Grade 8 Fleurie Lunch

Our lunch experience at Fleurie was outstanding!

Kris Forsha, manager of the restaurant, welcomed our students warmly for a "private dining". He made our student's experience as equally gastronomic as educational, giving us a little history of the restaurant's concept. Students ordered their meal in French, and some enjoyed developing their palate with something scrumptious that they never tasted before.
Our lunch concluded with a fabulous creme brulee demonstration by the excellent French pastry Chef, Serge Torres.  Thank you, Monsieur Merrick for being our extraordinaire chauffeur.

Encore merci a tout le personnel du restaurant Fleurie!

Kids' Night Out!

Peabody may be about to go on summer break, but Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is welcoming students to attend a Kids' Night Out on Saturday, June 2nd! Friends in PreK through 8th Grade, you are invited to attend an evening of adventure from 4:30 until 9:30PM, and you may come dressed as witches, wizards, and Patronuses to begin crafting, spellcasting, and potion-mixing! Dinner and dessert will include Ollivanders Fruit Wands, Hufflepuff Pizza, Pensive Punch, and Butterbeer! Your parents may drop you off via the Floo Network or Muggle transport, and you'll find Platform 9 3/4 disguised as the main entrance to Peabody School.

We await your owls to reserve your spaces by Wednesday, May 16th, or your families may reply via our Muggle technology by printing your  KNO Registration Form  and submitting them by May 16th to the drop box in the main office with cash or checks made payable to Peabody School. Our KNO program supports the Peabody School Annual Fund, and the $35 fee per student includes dinner, dessert, a potion, and two fun craft projects. For families with two or more children attending, the sibling discount applies, and the fee is $25 per child.

Kids' Night Out will also be held on these dates over Summer Break: June 30th, July 14th, and August 18th. Look for an email announcing each KNO theme and sign-up details two weeks prior to each date.
2017-2018 Annual Fund Update

Many thanks to everyone who has already donated to the Peabody Annual Fund for 2017-18! We are extremely grateful for your contributions, and appreciate your support of Peabody and our mission. Our goal is 100% participation from all faculty/staff and families! We hope you will help us get there!

Peabody "Green" Challenge

Peabody is participating in the 2018 Charlottesville Area Better Business Challenge.  The Challenge is a friendly points-based competition aimed at helping businesses cut energy costs, demonstrate their commitment to the environment, and gain community-wide recognition. At the heart of the contest is the “Energy Scorecard” that lists 45 actions to choose from: low-cost actions like creating an office energy team and using “smart” power strips to investment-level actions like installing rooftop solar or upgrading your lighting to LEDs. The installation of our solar array is big points for us!
